greasemonkeyredneck Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 While in the last six months since I've discovered the joys of scrolling, I've been almost exsclusively a scroller. However, I do dabble in other forms of woodworks. My most recent "new" skills have been practiced at a wood lathe. I had wanted to learn to turn wood for some time. I was standing in Harbor Freight one day eyeing a 14x40 lathe they had for $149. A sale lady walked up and told me that she wasn't sure they had any of those left and she's check. When she returned, she informed me they had one left and they were on clearance for $79. Well she made up my mind. So after buying the lathe and some tools to go with it, I got out of the store without going over $100. True, Central Machinery is a cheap lathe, but it was good enough for me to start learning. And boy have I been learning every chance I get. Now a buddy called me the other day needing me to pick up something. I drove over to find out he had an old Craftsman lathe (NICE one). He said it was just in his way and if I wanted it. Darn tootin I wanted it. So my shop grew some more. I now have in my shop 5 scrollsaw, 2 lathes, 3 table saws, drill press, table sander, a table router, a planer, a bench grinder, and a band saw. That's just the big stuff. In the past year, the good Lord has really blessed me. Quote
Travis Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Wow, you've got a pretty good collection building up there. I'm trying to save my pennies this year to buy a lathe too. I have my eye on the Jet VS Mini-Lathe. I also want to buy the pen turning starter kit from Penn State Ind. It looks like a lot of fun, but it also looks like a money pit. Why am I attracted to expensive hobbies? Quote

Then I'll say the same thing when I buy the next tool, and the next tool, and the next......... Quote
