Travis Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 I got a new project for the summer. A little playhouse for my son. I found some plans from Rockler that I like real well, so I went ahead and ordered them. It reminds me of an old west sheriff's station. Maybe I'll put some jail bars on. Perhaps do a sheriff's cutout for the door or something. I think it might need a few hobby horses to hitch to the front too. I look forward to putting it together. I'd imagine it'll only take a couple weekends. It should be fun. Quote
blame Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Nice project what specie are you going to make it out of? western red cedar? pine? or the borgs whitewood? (construction grade lumber) Quote
Travis Posted April 14, 2009 Author Report Posted April 14, 2009 Probably white wood for most of it. I'll have to look at the plans a bit closer. If I can use cedar fence planks for the siding, I might go that route. I like how cedar ages to that gray color. I think it would look kinda neat like that and give it that old barnwood look. Quote
blame Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 western red cedar is kinda expensive - so is SYP(Southern yellow pine) - white wood seems to be fairly cheap yet i've been posting on FF(Foresty Forums) about trying to sell some 36"+ white oak logs seems the log market is in the dumps right now. couldnt tell it by the price for lumber thou but yeah i'd use "western" red cedar for the siding and if you use wooden shingles i'd go with cedar too Quote
AirNationalGuardMom Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Sounds like a really fun project Travis. Make sure you take pictures. Linda Quote
