Sparkey Posted December 6, 2022 Report Posted December 6, 2022 I have been wanting to make one of these for a while and finally got around to it. JackJones, meflick, OCtoolguy and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Dak0ta52 Posted December 6, 2022 Report Posted December 6, 2022 I'm guessing a piece of wood with flat sides on the lathe??? Turned out really nice! What is the wood? Sparkey and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

oldhudson Posted December 7, 2022 Report Posted December 7, 2022 Very nice proportion and the grain is very pleasing. In addition to sharing if the flats were there from the beginning or cut after turning it would be great to give us the size or put something in the pic as a reference. Thanks for sharing. Scrappile Posted December 7, 2022 Report Posted December 7, 2022 Very well done.. First look I thought it was round... great work. Sparkey and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
Sparkey Posted December 7, 2022 Author Report Posted December 7, 2022 (edited) I started with a 4” by 6” by 10” piece of cherry. Turn it between centers until the 4” sides are rounded then made a tenon on the bottom. Then start to curve top to bottom until you get the flats where you want them. It is 3.5” by 5” by 8” tall. The shorter you make it the more round the flats will be. This is not mine but will give you an idea of how it will look if width and height are close to the same. meflick Posted December 7, 2022 Report Posted December 7, 2022 Beautiful piece (yours and the other you show). I will have to see if hubby, the more experienced turner, understands what you mean on how to do it. As a newbie turner who hasn't turned much yet, its a little muddling to me how you get two sides flat! Quote

His is the picture of the one I said wasn’t mine. meflick 1 Quote
