TAIrving Posted February 24, 2023 Report Posted February 24, 2023 There are several videos about this - disolve styrofoam in a solvent and you have a plastic coating for your projects. Not exactly lacquer, or is it? From the comments and other videos, it appears that several solvents will work. Some are more hazardous than others. Scrappile 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted February 24, 2023 Report Posted February 24, 2023 Very interesting! Looks like it might be a good coating for outside projects, like bird houses/feeders. Also good way to recycle that Styrofoam you hate to put in the landfills. Quote
barb.j.enders Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 Intriguing. And now for a small correction---- Those are "Expanded polystyrene beads". Styrofoam is/was a trademarked name and is blue. My dad sold styrofoam so we grew up knowing the difference. Their saying used to be "If it isn't blue it isn't Stryrofoam". Not sure if Dow Chemicals still holds the trademark. Scrappile 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 I wonder is any polystyrene material will work. Quote
