Gene Howe Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 Just finished installing The Lifter on my DW 788. Got a sign project with about 40 holes. That Lifter is going to be right handy. I can throw that block of ply in the scrap bin. Dave Monk and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
jpburcham Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 Awesome - I'd be interested in how you like it. . I'm a fairly new DW788 owner myself, and have been considering installing one of these. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

It's real easy to install. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Bill WIlson Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 Personally, I consider a lift to be a must-have accessory for the Dewalt saw. I had an EZ-Lift on mine. That and a footswitch will make life a lot easier. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 I had the Jim Dandy on mine and it worked well. Quote

kmmcrafts Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 Back when I had my DeWalt they didn't have the lifter invented yet.. But shortly after first getting the new DeWalt Jim Dandy came up with the "easy lift" .. That made so much difference in the scrolling experience that I could never go back to a saw that the arm didn't at least stay up.. Then I got spoiled when I got my Hawk scroll saw.. spring loaded upper arm sure is much nicer than even the easy lift, LOL.. no lifting at all as the arm just pops up out of the way once you release the blade or break a blade.. Sometimes when I've not used my Excalibur in a really like time I forget that I have to "lift" the arm manually.. LOL.. I'll be setting there for like 5 seconds waiting or in a daze as to why the arm didn't go up, LOL Gene Howe, jpburcham and OCtoolguy 1 2 Quote
Scrappile Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 the lift works I had a Jim Dandy, But I had gotten so use to using a block of wood I still found myself putting it in place to just make sure. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 I installed the lifter with the instructions to drill the little hole in the plastic cover instead of clipping the bit off. It worked like a charm! Love mine! OCtoolguy 1 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 When I sold mine last year I still had the Jim Dandy in the bag it came in and I explained to the new owner what it was and instructions were there to install. Whenever I used that saw which was not much I just used a block of wood. Worked well. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
GeenGeen Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 Does anyone know where I can purchase the easy lift system? The Jim Dandy website seems to be off-line. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Welcome to the village! I don't think they're making them anymore. I know there were a few other designs but I personally liked the Jim Dandy Easy Lift the best. I had one on my Dewalt back when I had a DeWalt and it was a wonderful upgrade / add-on. There isn't much to the thing and if you could find some pictures to look at it'd be quite easy and cheap to make and could get all parts for making it at a hardware store. Nothing more than some flat piece of aluminum about 1 inch wide and drill some holes for the bolts and make a slot for one of the bolts to slide in then a spring at the back for holding it up. JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Over the years there were many knock offs of the Jim Dandy lift tool. As mentioned easy to make. Papa' Woorkshop had a great idea and I included that video as on the bottom. May want to check that out. There are a ton of videos of installing various ones and I am sure you can get some idea to come up with one that works for you. Good luck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z97If-Jy8CA https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/31559-another-dw788-lift-arm/ https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=jim+dandy+lift+system+for+dewalt+scrollsaw&view=detail&mid=22681A2C76A4E4E64B4A22681A2C76A4E4E64B4A&churl=&ru=%2fsearch%3fq%3djim%2bdandy%2blift%2bsystem%2bfor%2bdewalt%2bscrollsaw%26refig%3d699a8a0f961c47d09ffe9ea412c3367a%26pc%3dHCTS%26pqlth%3d0%26assgl%3d42%26sgcn%3djim%2bdandy%2blift%2bsystem%2bfor%2bdewalt%2bscrollsaw%26qs%3dHS%26sgtpv%3dHS%26smvpcn%3d0%26swbcn%3d10%26sctcn%3d0%26sc%3d10-0%26sp%3d1%26ghc%3d0%26cvid%3d699a8a0f961c47d09ffe9ea412c3367a%26clckatsg%3d1%26hsmssg%3d0%26FPIG%3d9684BC76E502440DA437B4248F23757C%26first%3d34%26FORM%3dPORE%26ajaxnorecss%3d1%26sid%3d0A11D340BEA16D1A36F2C448BF516C5E%26format%3dsnrjson%26jsoncbid%3d2%26ajaxsydconv%3d1&mmscn=vwrc&FORM=WRVORC https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=scroll+saw+arm+lifter+diy&FPIG=830B2F0457FF4AEA8A91FE9809DA6A98&first=46&ajaxnorecss=1&sid=0A11D340BEA16D1A36F2C448BF516C5E&jsoncbid=3&ajaxsydconv=1&ru=%2fsearch%3fq%3dscroll%2bsaw%2barm%2blifter%2bdiy%26FPIG%3d830B2F0457FF4AEA8A91FE9809DA6A98%26first%3d46%26FORM%3dPORE%26ajaxnorecss%3d1%26sid%3d0A11D340BEA16D1A36F2C448BF516C5E%26format%3dsnrjson%26jsoncbid%3d3%26ajaxsydconv%3d1&mmscn=vwrc&mid=F1038765980EFA37E4C8F1038765980EFA37E4C8&FORM=WRVORC&ntb=1&msockid=d13f7a610fac11f1af8877d4442d86f7 OCtoolguy and kmmcrafts 1 1 Quote
Bill WIlson Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 I'm going to have to look into that. I had a couple different lifters when I had my first Dewalt. The Jim Dandy was the original and on the saw when I sold it several years ago. I also had a DIY kit that one of our scroll saw club members had put together. I never put it on the saw, but as JT said, they're fairly simple and made from readily available hardware. It went along with that first Dewalt. Now that I have another Dewalt, as my back-up saw, I miss the lift. I haven't used it much, so I haven't made replacing the lifter a priority, but it's taking up space in the back of my mind. Richard Hotchkiss Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 It would be nice if the design folks at Dewalt could start making their saws so that the arm stays up like many of the other saws on the market today. I'm sure their sales would increase if they would incorporate this feature on the 788. JTTHECLOCKMAN and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
