kmmcrafts Posted November 30, 2023 Report Posted November 30, 2023 Might be a good deal for someone... I don't know much about Hegners but this looks different than most I've seen.. Maybe just really old or an odd model? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2053553704977615/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A21e87045-849b-42cd-aa44-015d62692b51 OCtoolguy 1 Quote

TAIrving Posted November 30, 2023 Report Posted November 30, 2023 Just for kicks I tried to look up the Hegner Unimax. It is not listed on Amazon or the Advanced Machinery site and got no hits on eBay. Does anyone know when it was made and when they stopped making it? Inquiring minds want to know. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

The research I did I found images on google that lead to eBay and other sites.. if you search images.. Going to Hegners website I also searched it and found manuals.. I would be interesting to know more of the history of the saw though.. I like old equipment and the history along with it.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
TAIrving Posted December 2, 2023 Report Posted December 2, 2023 I sent a message to Advanced Machinery asking about the history of the saw but have not heard back from them yet. kmmcrafts and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
TAIrving Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 @kmmcrafts, @OCtoolguy, @Scrappile, I just got a reply from Advanced Machinery regarding the Unimax. Read the full text below, very interesting. "Thank you for your email. I apologize for the delayed response and I still don’t have all the answers yet, so I hope that you can bear with me. We’ve been very busy this season with our unprecedented Hegner Sale. I’m hoping to have more complete information by the end of this week. I’ve been told that the late c.1970’s. Unimax (aka Fretsaw/Multicut 1) was one of Hegner’s 1st prototype saws of it’s kind. It had a single speed induction motor and utilized a 3” blade attached to a clamp at the bottom only. The upper end of the blade, just rested in a ceramic slot as it went up & down. The upper and lower arm were a full single unit in a 13” ‘C’, but the arms could be removed to give unlimited throat. It had a limited thickness clearance of 1/4”-1/2”, depending on how you set it up and what you were cutting. We do still have some customer using them, and wouldn’t switch if you paid them. Unfortunately, with It’s limitations, it is no longer available and is replaced with the Multimax-14E (or 14S)." kmmcrafts, Scrappile and OCtoolguy 3 Quote
Scrappile Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 Okay, I may have been incorrect. BUT, not a real Hegner a prototype!? Wrong shade of redish orange.!! OCtoolguy and MarieC 2 Quote

The real old Hegner scroll saws were painted two different shades of orange.. just like this saw.. could be a different factory made certain parts for them and the mix for the paint wasn't nearly as accurate back in the day.. If you look close at the photos in the ad the base of the saw looks close to the color they use today.. but the arms etc look to be a much lighter orange.. Scrappile and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
