dottyblues Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 Hi Does anyone have any issues with 1/8 inch blade staying on their bandsaw? I have a Grizzly 14inch bandsaw and it keeps working itself off. I tried tracking it and tightening the tension with no success. Any suggestions? I have no problems with the 3/16ths blade. Thanks db Quote
Travis Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 This is just a shot in the dark, but some people will grind/sand the back of the blade. I think this is mostly to help turning radius, but perhaps there's a bur on the back that might be knocking it off center. With the blade in the saw, turn on the saw. While running, roll a board with some sandpaper glued to it across the back as if to round the back of the blade. Might be worth trying. Quote
dottyblues Posted July 13, 2012 Author Report Posted July 13, 2012 Thanks Travis. I'll give that a try. Quote
wedo scroll Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 A couple of questions: does the blade track straight and then roll off or does it wobble then roll off? Does it roll off the back or front of the wheel? If you lay the blade on a flat surface does it contact all the way around, or does it have areas that are raised and lowered? Bill Quote
Fabitfast Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 What are you cutting with a 1/8 inch blade that can’t be done by a 3/16th blade? If your 3/16th blade can do the job, why not replace your 1/8 inch blade? A 1/8 inch blade may not be suitable on your 14†band saw - maybe because of the guides? It would be wiser to change the blade than to buy new guides just to fit a 1/8 inch blade on your band saw. Quote
dottyblues Posted September 23, 2012 Author Report Posted September 23, 2012 I gave up on the 1/8th and just stuck to the 3/16th blade. I wanted to do a tighter turn with the 1/8th. Thanks all for helping. Quote
Fabitfast Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 It’s good to know you worked it out. Quote
jdbcarving Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Could be you have a track in your boots on the wheels. Might have to change them if there worn out. I have an old sears 80" use the 1/8" all the time for my cut outs for carving. The boots were replaced about 10 years ago, and that is the blade I use probably 80 percent of the time. Bigger blades have not been an issue. Jim B Quote
