Bo Liljeborn Posted August 12, 2024 Report Posted August 12, 2024 As many of you am I using a spray adhesive CRC Fast Glue to stick mi patterns to the wood, when I want temporary bound I spray on the paper only when I want permanent bound I spray both paper and wood. Now to mi problem when I spray on the paper the glue absorbs in to the paper and make ugly spots of dark what shows on the front side and don’t go away when it dries ;-( I use regular copy paper and try not to overspray but it gets really ugly, so how are you doing and what spray glue and paper do you use? Sense I am only practice I don’t waste photo paper to mi puzzles and other project but will what make any difference? I also have labelpaper what is self sticking I use what sometimes when I only need temporary bound on the pattern but can that be permanent to if I coat it with clear spray varnish/laqour? Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted August 13, 2024 Report Posted August 13, 2024 I always put down blue painters tape under every pattern I have cut and never had a problem removing and spray the back of plain old copy paper and set on top of blue tape. I have been scrolling for over 40 years and gone through lots of tape and spray adhesive. I buy the adhesive from Hobby Lobby, Michaels or at one time AC Moore. Occasionally when in need I will use 3M 77. No sticky residue to worry about with tape. If so it sands off when I finish sand both sides anyway, ready for finish. If I have a real delicate pattern with lots of thin scrolling I will switch to a purple tape which has less tack. Good luck. Roberta Moreton 1 Quote
Dan Posted August 13, 2024 Report Posted August 13, 2024 (edited) That has happened to me when I use too much adhesive. A light, even coat should be enough to hold the paper. Edited August 15, 2024 by Dan barb.j.enders 1 Quote
Bo Liljeborn Posted August 13, 2024 Author Report Posted August 13, 2024 So when I am going to remove the pattern after cutting I use painters tape (or maybe shelfliner?) to make it easier to get off, but when I cut a puzzle with an image what should stay on and the cutting pattern are on the image not separate how do I do when? Maybe you always use separate cutting patterns and don’t have what problem? Many rookie questions sorry for that. Quote

Usually satin. Edited August 13, 2024 by JTTHECLOCKMAN Dan and Bo Liljeborn 1 1 Quote

Bo, I’m not quite sure what CRC fast glue is but when I’m attaching a pattern printed on regular copy paper I use 3M77 spray adhesive and have never had an issue with bleed through. If I'm compound cutting I’ll glue the pattern directly to the wood. If the pattern needs to be removed I’ll put shelf liner down first and glue the pattern to that. I always print my puzzles on photo paper and top coat with clear triple thick glaze. If I use a pattern it’s on top of shelf liner for easy release. It can be a bit of a pain to peel off from the individual pieces but worth it to me. Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions or need clarification on anything.
