johnnie52 Posted October 26, 2012 Report Posted October 26, 2012 This piece was inspired by an original painting done by Judy Bragg Pardo (a local artist who is also a friend), The woods are: Poplar (dyed a light blue) Birds eye Maple (dyed a light blue) Walnut (the sky) Aspen (the figure in the center) Sabelle (the frame) Its is my first attempt at intarsia and so may be a little rough looking to you pros. All constructive criticism is of course welcomed. khmgb 1 Quote
Clayton717 Posted October 26, 2012 Report Posted October 26, 2012 looks good. I like the way you can still see the grain in the pieces you've dyed. Quote
Travis Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 That looks great! That design would make a wonderful box lid, too. Nicely done. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with. Quote
johnnie52 Posted October 27, 2012 Author Report Posted October 27, 2012 (edited) Actually Travis I need to thank you for those fine tutorials on pattern making that you posted. Your tips on using GIMP where invaluable to me as I worked to make the pattern from the posted picture of the original painting. As for what's coming next... I have at least two clocks in mind for Christmas this year. I'm working out some custom fret work for those. I'll post pics as I finish. Edited October 27, 2012 by johnnie52 Quote
Clayton717 Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 John is this a pattern you would be able to share. I know youmade it from a painting by a friend so if you can't share it, I'll understand. I'm gonna be building my wife a new jewlery box and would really like to put this on it. johnnie52 1 Quote
johnnie52 Posted October 30, 2012 Author Report Posted October 30, 2012 (edited) Let me ask the artist. If she says its OK I'll try to post it. Meanwhile you can browse some of her other works at her web site, http://www.judypardo.com/ Edited October 30, 2012 by johnnie52 Quote
