Travis Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 How did you learn intarsia? Did you just jump right in, or did you buy a book? Which book would you recommend? Is it better to start off with a simple project, or should I just jump in and do something that I really like? Thanks! Quote
Clayton717 Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I just dove in head first. I got a pattern book from the library, picked a few patterns I liked out of it and picked an easy one and just went at it. If your not sure about it start with something simple, or if you are up for a challenge pick something you really like. My first projects were the praying hands which has like 13 pieces, then the teddy bear which has around 40 pieces. From there the jesus was next with 122 pieces. Judy gale roberts has a couple dvd's available along with lots of patterns(intarsia.com), and Bruce Worthinton has an ebook on his site (intarsia.net) Don't be afraid to try it. I was intimidated at first but now I love it. For my next Jesus which I have to start here soon, I could put some of the steps I go throught in the work in progress area. Quote
Travis Posted January 12, 2009 Author Report Posted January 12, 2009 I just dove in head first... I'm kinda a dive right in kinda guy too. I'll probably just find something that I like and just go for it. ...For my next Jesus which I have to start here soon, I could put some of the steps I go throught in the work in progress area. Please do! That would rock! I'd love to see that come together step by step! Quote

Travis Posted January 14, 2009 Author Report Posted January 14, 2009 its not intarsia but similar. lath art is something thats always caught my eye. http://lathart.blogspot.com/ This is certainly something I'd like to get discussions going. I find it really interesting and would also like to give it a try. In fact, I'd like to change the name of this forum to something that's more inclusive to similar artforms such as lath art! I'm hoping a few lath artists will jump in and share some of their knowledge If you give it a try, we'd love to hear your thoughts on it! Maybe some pictures too. We love pictures. Quote
