wombatie Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Last night at 6.30 an 11 year old boy was just finished his cricket training when he was attacked by his father. He was beaten about the head with the cricket bat and then stabbed. He died at the scene. The police tried unsuccessfully to disarm the man and he was subsequently shot in the chest. He later died in hospital of the gun shot wounds. All of this happened because of a custody dispute with the mother. I would like to know what he thought he would gain by doing such an horrific thing to HIS child. It is bad enough when it is done by a stranger but his own Father that is unthinkable. And this all happened less than a 10 min drive from my home. His home town, his school, his family and the people in the surrounding towns are all in deep shock. Until last year we had never had a 'Murder' committed around here and now we have had 2, I hate to think what will happen next. The boys name is Luke and I would appreciate you all saying a prayer for his mother who is devastated. Marg Rob Roy 1 Quote

keefie Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Marg, it's always sad when a young child dies, even worse when he's murdered by his own father. Prayers are on the way for his mum and the rest of the family. Rob Roy and wombatie 2 Quote
Rob Roy Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Hi Marg, that really is a sad story. I'm am of the same frame of mind as Keith and Roly and probably most folks on the forum. We have had a few cases in a similar vein to your story Marge. Mum and Dad split up which is sad enough, but the attitude which comes to the fore as far as the children goes is, "if I can't have the child or children no one is having them", what a strange attitude to take. To involve innocent children is just unfathomable!!!! That poor Mum and the family will need all the prayers and support they can get. Roly's friend's wife will also need the same support and prayers to get through it all. Human nature can't be accounted for at times. Rob Roy. wombatie and keefie 2 Quote
Dan Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 That is very sad Marg. I don't think we will ever know what makes some people act in such a manner. I'll keep the boy's family in my prayers. wombatie 1 Quote
Ron Johnson Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Good morning Marg So sad and heart breaking when you hear of such horrific incidents not only close to home but throughout the world. Being a memorial counsel I deal with grieving parents with the loss of a loved one and the saddest and the hardest ones are the loss of a child. My prayers are with the mother and I pray with time that she receives a little comfort knowing her child is now at peace. wombatie 1 Quote

Nick@tinkers-cove Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Absolutely tragic Marg...I make a point of steering clear of any form of news media, but saw this by accident today. Made me feel ill. It has just reinforced my opinion of how bad the world is, and why I avoid the news. It's not ignorance on my part - I'm just overwhelmed with sadness everytime I see something as wrong as this. Kindest Regards, Nick. Quote
wombatie Posted February 14, 2014 Author Report Posted February 14, 2014 On a brighter note. The Australian Cricket Team had a minutes silence for Luke. They did not know him they had never met but the fact that he loved cricket was enough for them to honor him. How very touching. Marg Phantom Scroller, keefie, Docupton and 1 other 4 Quote
