Wilson's Woodworking Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) My son asked me to make a box for his wedding for the cards to go into. He wanted it to look like a treasure chest and that is not a problem. I have made chests like that before. What I would really like to do is surprise them with the date inlayed into the front of the box maybe around a couple wedding bells. I have made a couple of my own patterns before but can’t seem to really nail this one. Any ideas on what would really pop on this project would greatly be appreciated. The date of the wedding is May 17/2014 and as slow as I am and as little free time as I have I need to get started on this one soon Woops this should have went under Pattern requests. spirithorse Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Greetings!Congrats on the big day. I googled "Wedding+keepsake+box" and saw lots of ideas. The one most often seen was, "With this ring I thee wed"Another that just said, "I DO"Another with three hearts scrolled in the ftront (but your inlay idea would look much better). Do a search with something similar to mine and you should definitely get some ideas. Then, if you need, I'm sure someone can make the pattern for your inlay.God Bless! Wilson's Woodworking Posted February 24, 2014 Author Report Posted February 24, 2014 I got a chance to work on it a little this weekend. now to figure out a text to do the lettering with. Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted February 28, 2014 Author Report Posted February 28, 2014 Well here is what I came up with. I am still looking for a way to spruce it up a little. Anyone have any ideas? I am looking at making the box out of aromatic red cedar and inlay the bells with maple and the bow with walnut. I figure on maple for the font as well. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted April 21, 2014 Author Report Posted April 21, 2014 I cut the bells and bow over the weekend and that worked great. Then I tried to cut the date and found that It would work better with a more rounded font. Can anyone make a pattern of this date (May 17 2014) with a little more inlay friendly font? When I cut these number all the sharp corners made it fit very tight and I split my board trying to force them in. Thank You Quote
Birchbark Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 This font is fairly "round" maybe it will help, idk. It's about as round as i have. Russell Phantom Scroller 1 Quote

Phantom Scroller Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Danny not sure what your looking for but here's three rounded fonts. Birchbark 1 Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted April 21, 2014 Author Report Posted April 21, 2014 Wow I almost missed that Russel had the wrong date on there. Thanks for posting that Roly or I would have had it cut before I realized it was the wrong date. All of your fonts are nice but I really want to use an open number 4 so I dont have a floater to worry about. I had used some white out and fixed the Y for this also. Phantom Scroller 1 Quote
Birchbark Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 ha sorry Danny, wow i missed that as well. Whoops. I don't think i understand your last post for sure. Do you still need that font, should i fix it? Or are you ok now? I will work on this right now... if i can remember which font it is lol. I will see if i can fix this. Sorry. Russell Quote

Wilson's Woodworking Posted April 22, 2014 Author Report Posted April 22, 2014 Thanks Russell. The reason I missed that is that June 14 2014 I will be getting married and the 14th is floating around in my head. I might bother you for a June in this same font for a gift for my own bride but first I need to finish my son's box. Lol Thanks again. I owe you for this one. I hope some day I can repay you. Quote
Birchbark Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Ha glad i could FINALLY help. I'm sure they'll love it. Congrats on your upcoming June wedding. I'm envious. Russell Wilson's Woodworking 1 Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted August 14, 2014 Author Report Posted August 14, 2014 This font is fairly "round" maybe it will help, idk. It's about as round as i have. Russell I am looking for the font Russell used on this pattern. My brother is getting married on Sept 6 and I am making him a box similar to the one I made August (my son) I can’t find it in the list I have on my computer and I can’t seem to find it on the free down load sites. Birchbark Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 I haven't had time to get on here in a while Danny, sorry i didn't see your post sooner. I will have a look and see if i can figure out which font i used for this pattern and post asap. Russell Quote
Birchbark Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Ok i found the font, it is called SusaHeavy, I decreased the kerneling and stroked the outside with white to make the letters connect a little better and make the bridges wider. Good luck with the pattern, if you have any trouble i would be glad to see if i can make it for you. Just let me know. I'll try to check back soon. Russell Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted August 18, 2014 Author Report Posted August 18, 2014 I wound up using SCROLL_SCRIPTMT Thanks for looking Russell but I don't want to spend $30 for a font right now. If I wouldn't have found one I liked I would have been knocking on your door to have you help me. Thanks again. Danny Quote
