scrollbilly Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 I have recently taken an interest in trying my hand at intarsia, but would like to design my own patterns. I have searched all over trying to find tutorials, videos, classes or anything on the subject, with no luck. Does anyone know where to find any intarsia pattern making tutorials? Do designers use computer programs like gimp, or is it mostly old school tracing paper and pencil? Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Jim Finn Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 I make my own patterns for intarsia or trace them from images. Stained glass patterns should work well also. amazingkevin 1 Quote

scrollbilly Posted April 4, 2014 Author Report Posted April 4, 2014 http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27899 Really enjoying it so far and learning a great deal. Of course a lot of these features are covered in Travis's inkscape tutorials, but this one is just geared more for using them specifically for intarsia. Enjoy Phantom Scroller 1 Quote
heppnerguy Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 Roly, You hesitate too much. I KNOW you would do a spectacular job with intarsia. Although there is shaping and a lot of sanding involved, you do not have to drill a lot of holes and make a lot of tight corners. It is all outside cuts and shaping and fitting. I would really like to see you dive in and go for it. Dick heppnerguy Quote

Dick heppnerguy Dick, It's all the different depths you have to master, when to put an extra piece behind or have a thicker piece and how to achieve the different colours with the lack of coloured woods in the UK. i will have a go at it I want to try some Disney characters for the Granddaughter room.
