Well we had a look at the saw and it wasn't the air hose. But it was (excuse me for not knowing the technical term) the silver metal bit that connects to the arm, the blade goes in the end. Terry pushed it to see if it was loose and when he started the saw the knocking had stopped. Not sure if the problem is fixed permanently but it is for now. Thanks for trying to help. Marg
