I have never used a blade chart or a speed chart for that matter. My first saw was a single speed, so that settled the speed thing, and couldn't use small blades with it, so that settled the size of blade I could use. Now it is mostly a "try it and see" approach for me. For intarsia I use FD polar blades mostly no. 5 and 3. For intricate fretwork sr 1 or 3. I have sawn 3/4" wood with a no. 1 with no problems along as they are FD blades. Of course, everyone has their prefernce to which and what brand of blade to use. Fran

Thanks for any compliments directed at me. All I can say is practice, practice, ditto, ditto Really though, you have a talent that I don't, that is pattern making, I have tried it and it just don't work for me. But I do love the patterns that you great pattern makers do. Fran

Well, I planned to make some gifts this year, if this darn heat will let up. But then I haven't really decided what to make and for who. Don't have that many people in my life, so will probably get er done when the weather cools off some. Fran

I know what you mean about putting out that kind of money. When I needed a new saw back in 05, I considered the DeWalt, but they were just being made in China and had a lot of manufacturing issues. I also had my eye on the Ex 21, at a much higher price. One thing I liked about the Ex was the tilting arm for angled cuts. Long story short, I had just retired, so sold some test equipment I had and bought the Ex-21. It is a great machine, I never used a DeWalt, but am not sorry of my purchase. It has made me love woodworking so much more. Fran

I love it, Clayton. Is this your pattern? I know Robert H. has some patterns of guns, as I ordered all of them. Have made the pistols, but not the rifles yet. Was going to make some for the "gun nuts" in the family and friends. I really like the shaping you did, I may have to call on you for some help. Guns are not as easy as they look. Fran
