  1. I don't think so because I can't see anyplace to install the blade!
  2. Durn - wish I lived closer I'd buy it in a minute!
  3. Their webhost has been moving files, etc. They are working on it furiously trying to get it back online.
  4. penturning and genealogy come to mind immediately - followed closely by antagonizing my 9-year old daughter!
  5. This is precisely why I will NEVER buy ANYTHING that is "NFL, Walt Disney , Nascar , NBA, Harley Davidson" related. Anytime I hear of other organizations doing the same I, then, adjust my buying appropriately. Their crass materialism has, definitely, taken a toll on the American economy!
  6. There are no mistakes in scrolling -- just "design opportunities"!
  7. A scroll saw won't cut you but it makes for a nasty burn!
  8. Merlin - You forgot a couple other items -- Travis could, also, cut fingers and hands as well after a few 'malteds'! Dan
  9. Since I already own the book (and a few others!) I won't be entering the contest. However, I have just finished my 1st inkscape project where I had to slightly modify a pdf of a clock and it worked great! I am going to start trying to use Inkscape (and Travis' template - thanks) to design some of my own clock patterns. I've been using GIMP to manipulate my photos. Have I got this backwards? I guess I'm still exploring both programs! Dan
  10. I have that lathe and I LOVE it! Works great. I also have the 4 pc. sharpening system from PSI which is at http://www.pennstateind.com/store/LCGRIND4.html. It really works well. Make sure your grinder will go 1750 rpm. The faster grinders go over 3000 rpm and can burn tools. Dan
  11. The same company that used to make the Craftsman quality tools now makes the Ridgid tools sold at Home Depot. I now have a contractor's table saw and a miter saw. All came with a Lifetime guarantee.
  12. I'm real partial to "Free Wood". Right now I have a huge supply of cherry that was given to me by a finish carpenter who had a large amount left over from a big job. I am, now, using cherry for almost everything since it's cost was nil! Dan

    Pens

Nice looking pens, Dan. I love making Sierra/Gatsby pens! The Other Dan

    Pens

Chris - You can turn small things (pens, etc.) on a big lathe. You cannot, however, turn big things (large bowls, etc.) on a mini lathe. Dan
  15. On my VS lathe I, typically, leave the belt on the "middle range" and vary the speed within this range. There have been a couple of times I wanted to go slower and I did move the belt. The high speed of the middle range has been all the speed I needed. Dan
