  1. Thanks for the reminder .... I forogt all about this site until I opened it and yes.... I've been there ..... a looooooong time ago! Now all I have to do is actually get that money to them - found out Lowes does not take overseas creditcards..... bummer... then I just with I could be there to teach them , to watch their faces....
  2. That sounds very encouraging. My fear is that if I get them a saw that's frustrating to use they'd loose interest in scrolling before they'd get a chance to fall in love with it Thank you
  3. wow, you know those guys who answered on their site must have had lemons or something... you are telling me the right opposite and I'm ready to tell my son to get this saw... specially considering that they aren't going to be using it for fine scrolling .... they are all beginners and chances are high that they will destroy it before they have a need for a better one lol ..... so it's an entry saw.... I'm hoping to get them interested enough so maybe in a few years they'll want/need a better one. I'm still hoping that one day someone will sell a Delta over here again... nothing beats that clamp system.....I've used a Hegner and still liked the Delta better! Thanks again for your input
  4. Thanks so much for that quick reply... lighting speed! lol Are you using the saw with pin or pinless blades? Are the pinless ones easy to change? This saw is going to my son and his 3 boys ( 8,10 and 12) My son's an experienced woodworker, but never had a scroll saw... so they are looking forward to this. I would hate to get them something that's going to frustrate them and turn them off woodworking. Thanks again Juvy
  5. Hello, a few months ago I read a review in one of the magazines about the PORTER-CABLE 16" Variable Speed Scroll Saw , it sounded pretty good. As I'm in Australia I can't go have a look at it myself, but would like to purchase it for my Texas grandkids. When I had a look at the Loewe site I read some of the comments and as good as the first ones were... the latest ones are bad.. So before I send them money for this.. can anyone tell me more about it? Or can anyone recommend a saw comparable in price? At the monent they sell it for $186 with stand. Does not have to have the stand as my son can make one. I have a Delta myself and love it, but not sure if it can still be bought in the US... we can't get it here anymore. Thank you Juvy
  6. That's a "different" idea ...... actually a pretty darn good one I had no idea what a Megalodon was..... I looked because I thought it might be some kind of instrument! lol Juvy
  7. Thanks Clayton, think that Wildwood one is a bit out ofKathy's reach..... price wise, also looks like it would take her probably longer then the clock. I do however think the one Kevin is showing would be a bit quicker...... any idea where the pattern came from? Thanks Juvy
  8. I'd love to see the photo! Does anyone know where to get a pattern? Thanks Juvy
  9. Thanks everyone..... I showed Kathy all the answers and she loved being "famous" She now wants to do more "big" projects, one of them is the Eiffel tower - so far have only found a portrait style pattern, but she shook her head... she wants something "better" lol Thank you for being so supportive and encouraging Juvy
  10. Hello .... I haven't posted here in ages, so couldn't resist this opportunity My star pupil Kathy... she started scrolling just 18 months ago ....look what she just finished! We're so proud of her! She lives about an hour away and drove here 2-3 times a month for the last year. Then her patience was severely tested. Once she finished all the cutting she left the parts here for Ken and myself to assemble.... however... we had an overseas trip booked and couldn't do it until we came back. She didn't know we finished it when she came to visit... her face was priceless! This was well worth it... three days in a row she send us e-mail telling us that she still loves her clock! Now THAT's what I think is what it's all about Juvy
  11. that's reminded me..... here's another one to add: every so often do broom/vac your floor..... makes it much easier to find those little escaped pieces!

    cross

I agree.. the lettering really makes that cross
  14. Cute! Leave it the way it is tho.... easter eggs are colourful enough .... plus if you get paint in between it might not open or close right? Juvy
  15. Loved the monkey puzzle from SS&C last year..... had a show coming up... so set to work Juvy uho... seems the photo disappeared.... sorry about that... should be here now
  16. really came out nice... is that the one from the scroll saw magazine? Juvy
  17. Thank you Travis Juvy
  18. I'm in Australia..... when we do get SSW&C it usually is at least two months late... and they want AU $21.95 . Couldn't justify paying that no matter how much I wanted it. So I have subscribed .. much cheaper... What I can't understand is that in the US both their scrolling and carving magazine are 6.95 if I'm correct? In our newsagency here the carving one is ony AU 13.95... can't figure out why the difference... who makes up those prices? I couldn't justify that price no matter how bad I wanted the magazine... Woodworks is also AU13.95 and I just started a new subscription.... took 2 months to get the first magazine and so far I have not received any of the bonuses promised. I do believe subscription is the way to go for overseas folks like me because is included in the price .... much cheaper then the post office. Juvy
  19. THANK YOU..... that's the one. I know I have that issue and I can't understand how I missed the pattern. Maybe all that saw dust in my eyes? thanks again Juvy
  20. About a year or two ago one of the scroll saw magazines had a pattern for of a dove with different colour ribbons for the different cancers. I've looked high and low through my magazines , I know I had it as I cut it one time. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Which one of the magazines or even better.... which issue? Thank you very much Juvy
  21. Can you believe I have never scrolled a protrait on any kind of ply? Over here we usually use whatever timber we can get our hands on... I usually use anything from 1/8" to 1 1/4" timber. The thicker it is the more depths you get.... and if the piece has an interesting shape you can leave it natural and don't need to worry about framing it. When I do use 1/4" or less I put a piece of 3- 4 mm MDF or pine under it.... usually I scroll family portraits so stack cutting serveral would give me too many, but having one on good timber and the other on mdf or pine still gives a customer one to keep and one to give away. I find doing this gives me much more control and supports tiny pieces while cutting. Juvy
  22. I use both FD and Pegasus and find the FD easier for fine work, but they seem to break much faster , I like Pegasus , specially the modified geometry ones for 3/4" puzzles... they seem to be very forgiving , last a long time. Juvy
  23. I have bits of tape and paper I pulled off all the red gum key names I finished using Steve Good's program. To make them different I scanned some of the patterns back in and changed the font. The plan is to use then instead of name tags on all x-mas gifts this year. Next is a picture of a church organ a dear old lady asked for.... her son used to play this organ at a local church. Talk about challenge! Lost of little thin straight lines....... Juvy
  24. I just spend a most enjoyable hour browsing through all 47 pages of the gallery. There's so much talent here and so many generous people sharing their knowledge. Just thought I'd say thank you to everyone Juvy
