  1. Hi all Anyone out there know where there are any shops in orlando for scrollsaw patterns especially the winfield collection. My daughter will be there over christmas so I have given her a list to look out for, also somewhere to buy flying dutchmen blades. Any help as always much appreciated
  2. Thanks to everyone for the tips regarding blade clamp not holding,am getting by just by inserting a piece of paper in clamp until a friend can make me a sturdier part. Can't help thinking though that with modern technology and materials a better system could be designed.Anyway going to suffer withdrawal symptoms as Ihave a heap of work to do around the house which must be done so no spare time for scrolling for a while, pity really as I was improving every day and was surprising myself on what I was able to make in such a short space of time.
  3. Hi. everyone Only had my saw for two weeks and the blade clamp is not holding. Is this a common problem or maybe specific to SIP machines.I know you get what you pay for but two weeks seems very unreasonable.Have mailed supplier to send replacement but should not have to do this so soon.Anyone know how to get by until parts arrive? Already feel Ihave lost an arm and my wife is waiting for her next ornament. The clamp is held on arm with an allen screw and tightened with allen screw also. The screw appears to tighten but as soon as tension is applied the blade just pulls out of the clamp.Could use pinned but need to feed blade through small entry holes so not practical.Any advice greatly welcomed.
  4. Greasemonkeyredneck. First off can you shorten your name,my typing is slower than my scrolling.Seriously though thanks for the tips, already been to one site reccomended by travis and got enough stuff to keep me going for years. The wallpaper paste I used was a ready mixed heavy duty which has been sat in the garage for years,it stuck the pattern really good and only needed to be sprayed with water left a few minutes and came right off leaving hardly any residue, left to dry sanded perfectly.Don't think I will bother with anything else.Know what you mean about scrolling being addictive, find myself wanting to be in garage all the time having to make myself do other jobs around the house and garden.
  5. Travis. Have got the glue but the piece more shattered than snapped leaving multiple fragments and while I have lots of patience for most things miniature jigsaw puzzles are not my thing. Not too worried about the break as it was only the second object I have made and to be honest expected much worse.Going to try and get some better quality wood which am expecting to improve things as well as my own steady improvement and gain in confidence.Really grateful for all help and comments you guys have given me so far.Still cannot buy spray glue except at a very high price so have used wallpaper paste which has worked brilliantly, the only downside it needs time to dry before cutting so just a bit of forward planning needed.
  6. Travis thanks for the advice will have a look at that site asap.Made the mums rock trivet today, many thanks to joscrolls for the pattern,Unfortunately the last S I cut snapped probably due to poor quality ply and my own inexperience.Wife still loved it though, she is easily pleased, luckily for me.
  7. Travis. thanks for the advice and encouragement, made the celtic scroll by Christina [thanks to her for the pattern] and it turned out half decent.Saw came fitted with a pinned blade but since fitting straight blade find it much easier to stay on course and turn tight corners.Would love to cut something similar to the miniature vase and flowers as in The Winfield Collection but being out of work am having to rely on the free patterns for now.Birthday coming up soon so plenty of hints being given to rest of family. I cannot get any spray glue locally so I improvised with a Prit stick which worked great and paper came off easily when finished,a quick sand easily removed residue.
  8. Hi everyone,SIP 01373 arrived today, managed to try it out for an hour.Only did some random curves straight lines etc.Managed to only break one blade. Will have to curb my ambitions for a while though am not as good as I hoped I would be,lots of practise obviously needed before moving onto some decent projects.Things went a lot better once it permeated my skull that it would not cut as fast as a circular saw. This is my first scroll saw and it feels good to me for the price.Could do with a quicker less fiddly blade change but once again I have not had anything to compare with. Will keep you informed when Ifinally manage to do something recogniseable.
  9. Hi Grimesy according to aktivetools.com the SIP takes both types of blade. After many hours of trawling web comparing and reading various reviews on many differant models this was the only one which actually did state this.Imailed several sites to ask which blades a particular saw used did not get one reply,so much for the recession, they are obviously making enough profit without having to deal with customers.Sorry to go on about this but in wy humble opinion size and type of blade used should be just as relevant as throat depth motor size etc.Even manufacturers cannot be bothered to put details on their specs.Right Iam going to get a glass of wine now and calm down. Will post what Ithink of the SIP when it arrives.
  10. Hi Dave, like you I am in England [Doncaster area] have just ordered saw SIP01373 from aktive tools.com £84.50 vat and pp inclusive takes pinned and straight blades. From what my research has found the £50 range machines are made in China and badged for differant stores also got bad reviews for doing serious work, although good for balsa or thin woods.Itoo am having trouble finding supplies but have only just started looking really.Should have delivery of saw tuesday/wednesday will then be able to give verdict but having nothing to compare it with don't know how much this is worth.Good luck in your search hope it takes less time than mine did.
  11. Hi. all, I have just ordered my first machine,a SIP01373 should arrive next Tuesday. This is going to sound really dumb but apart from finding out it takes both pinned and straight blades,Icannot find which size to buy.As I am totally new to this hobby any and all advice from other members would be really great.I am on a very limited budget hence the cheaper machine. Also being in England supplies are somewhat limited and quite pricey compared to US.Have already downloaded several simple patterns to get me started, can't wait to start scrolling.
