  1. Welcome If you like portraits then there are some good ones here that do not appear to get picked up by the search engines:- http://cid-4cd58734e83b126c.spaces.live ... fault.aspx Have Fun!
  2. Some very fine pieces there - The Eagle, in particular, is magnificent
  3. That is a fine, proud looking Eagle. The frame compliments it lovely - well done Sue Cheers Keith
  4. Very good and its nice to see some colour in a project. The choice of red really lifts them. Cheers Keith
  5. Plaques and frames. Plaques like Christinas' and frames like this one:- viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1233
  6. No apology needed Christina. Entirely my fault I should have checked with you - I am just a little shy at using Private messaging on boards I am new to though. Thanks for posting the image anyway - I had fun playing with it
  7. Oops :( So sorry. I did try to find why the image was posted as it was obviously not a pattern but couldnt find a link. I also had no idea it was a copyrighted character as I had never heard of it - maybe a USA thing? I thought Christina was doing a parody of Top Cat! Oh well no harm done I hope ... Thanks Keith
  8. I like "cute" Couldnt shape it as my old sander had broken down but have just had a new disc/belt sander delivered. Am now practising on it and turning good wood into very fine dust a lot quicker than I ever could before!
  9. Thank you Could be a lot better but its a start.
  10. I believe there is a machine where the table remains horizontal but the head of the machine tilts instead. I quite like the idea of that too.
  11. I fell in love with this characterization by Christina:- So I thought I would do a segmentation of it. If you have never done any segmentation I recommend it - very enjoyable Anyway here he is:- Thanks Christina - my daughter loves it
  12. Thanks Travis - didnt know about that site Good he does downloads too which is good news for those of us not in the USA.
  13. ... what Dale said. Airbrushes need stripping down and cleaning very often. If I am spraying 2 or 3 colours in succession then I can usually get away with spraying a paint thinner or airbrush cleaner through between colours. However I dont think I would entertain the idea of spraying varnish at all because that would entail a very good strip down and clean through as soon as possible after spraying. The nearest I have come to spraying varnish was to use Johnsons Klear ("Future" in the USA). That is acrylic based though and cleaned pretty easily. Unfortunately I understand that the product is now discontinued :(
  14. I just love the scenic one. Where can I buy/download the pattern please? Cheers Keith
  15. They held but .. in 2 places the layers seperated a little and I had to position and glue them. Also the edges of the boards damage easily and the blades blunt very quickly. I dont think I would use MDF again for close cutting work - it was just a stop gap whilst waiting for a wood delivery.
  16. I have a spare bedroom that I use for a "Hobby Room". This includes a multitude of things I have tried and some that I have stayed with. It is a large room with 4 large desks that I have topped with heavy one and a half inch kitchen worktops. The 1st stands apart from the others (Which are in a U shape formation) and is home for my Computer and Computer equipment etc. The 2nd stands under a large window and I use that for model building, sketching etc or anything that would benefit from a good natural light. This desk forms the crossbar of the U. The 3rd forms the left of the U and containers photograhic equipment such as a lightbox, lights etc - useful for photographing small objects. The 4th Forms the right of the U and now hold the scroll saw and scroll saw tools, blades etc. Lots of shelving around the room provide adequate storage for needed items. I use another smaller spare bedroom for spraying, painting, varnishing etc. Light sanding is also done here. I also use a wooden shed for things like heavy sanding, storage etc. A few years ago I used a small corner of the living room but once the children flew the nest I expanded a little ....
  17. I just make sure it is dry and use our cooking stove (natural gas) I use a small gas pencil torch meant for soldering and direct the flame downwards but not upwards or horizontally. That way the wood never gets singed
  18. You are very welcome, Sue. I like that style of picture and will be keeping a weathereye on your gallery - keep 'em peeled.... Cheers Keith
  19. I have a slightly different view on this. Minerals spirits: (white spirit, turps etc) used for cleaning brushes, unwanted paint/grease off things etc Paint thinners: Made for specific paints to thin them in order to get the best out of them. e.g. Tamiya Acrylic Paint Thinner - to thin their acrylics to a suitable consistency for an airbrush.
  20. Thank you Christina Now (as a light relief and to get some colour into my life) I am thinking of doing a simple segmentation of your Underdog:- would that be OK? Cheers Keith
  21. Thank you - much appreciated Cheers Keith
  22. If I do it again then I will use spirals for some of the cuts - some were too close for comfort for me and I nearly messed up a couple of times. Good Fun! though Cheers Keith
  23. Didnt paint it It was slightly off colour to start with so I mucked around with a sponge and a lightly coloured varnish... great Fun! Cheers Keith
  24. The 2nd in the series from Shadylady0447 and a little more difficult for me. Enjoyed it very much. It is on a piece of tatty MDF. I thought that the mottled staining on the material lent itself to the mood of a ship in heavy waters. Thank you Sue Cheers Keith
  25. Shadylady0447 has produced a set of 4 - I am working through them in (my perception) scale of difficulty. They are all in her gallery
