I'm with Magic on the glue. I use Elmer's stick glue that the kids in primary school use. I put down painter's tape and then coat it with the stick glue. I do cover the pattern with clear shipping tape. It helps increase the longevity of the blade. If the pattern does start to lift, I whip out my trusty roll of scotch (cheap imitation) tape and stick "er back down. Works perfectly for me.

I'm a dedicated flat blader, but I'm convinced that ever works for you is the blade to use. Most flat bladers use skip tooth blades as their bread and butter blade, not me. I use double tooth blades. They give me more control and yes, you have to cut a slower rate. That is what I need because I try to cut at a faster rate of speed than i can control skip tooth blades. So the bottom line is use the blades that works best for you.

I try to do the same thing that does with the veining cuts. In some cases, I will drill my hole in the middle of the vein and then attempt to feather the veining cut out from the starter hole. I think the pattern determines how you hand the start hole for the veining cuts depending on the nature of the pattern.

Carter put me on to Mike's puzzle blades and 1/4 poplar plywood. They make the process sooooo much easier than using #2/0 blades with other kinds of plywood. Although I have found that if you can find the laminated hardwood flooring in pieces large enough for post cards, that they make awesome puzzles. The only problem with the laminated hardwood flooring is the wear and breakage of the blades with the laminated flooring, but the flooring cuts clean with strong keys and key ways.

OK, folks i signed up in July and then just fell off a cliff. Sorry about that, but this summer and and fall has been super busy for all of us. I have not been lurking, not a lurker am I, but just have not been on this site. I think this is my 2nd time to be on the site and I had to reset my password (I forgot it). So after this message I'm getting ready to slip into the bed, we are head out for a luncheon date with two of my best friends from college. The last time that I saw them was 42 years ago. It may take a while for us to catch up. We were very good friends, I was the best man at their wedding. So it may really take a while to get caught up, but I will be on site every day or every other day. It is good to see old friends on site and looking forward to making new friends. later, later, darrell, the okiearkie.....

Hi Y'all, this is the OkieArkie from the Hill Country along the SW Arkansas and SE Oklahoma border. I see some of my old scrolling friends have beat me to the Village. I love to make patterns and cut all most any thing, with the exception of Intarsia. I think that is a wonderful craft, but just not my cup of tea. I'm hoping to learn a bunch from all of you guys and gals and be positive contributor to the site.
