  1. I had issue with the plan end blade when I began using them. I did something quite different. I took a pinned blade to my sander and I filed down the "UPPER" pins to permit the to access the drilled hole. Give it a try!!! I cannot recall where I read it, but another thing you might try is taking the set screw loose and sanding the end that faces the blade's edge so that it is flat. I find that my finger can not tighten the screw tight enough, so I keep a pair of needle nose pliers close by. I snug the thumb screw slightly and the lower blade remains in place.
  2. CONGRADULATION FOR A JOB WELL DONE!!!
  3. I have been using a #60 drill bit, which is technically a wire bit for those "TINY' areas. The one I use was produced be IRWIN and is available at most hardware stores. I have also used a drill bit designed for use with the dremil tool. If the area is one that is not detrimaental to the overall appearance of the finished product, it can be omitted. The thing to remember with scroll work is that no one will Know but you, unless you point it out to them. I hope this helps.
  4. Great work! I do not like spiral blades either. I find I have NO CONTROL as to where they cut. It may have something to do with the fact that I am accustome to turning the wood, but whatever the issue, I do a better just with straight cut blades!
  5. Beautiful work! GREAT JOB! Thank you for displaying them.
  6. Thanks Edward, that was exactly what I was gearing toward. I purchase a bracket today which I hope will solve the problem and permit me to retrieve my quicky claps!
  7. I am not attempting to attach it to the deck railling. I made the whirligigs with the idea of selling them. I do not want them to topple over in someone else's pocession. I guess I am asking if anyone knows how I can make them more stable, say if someone wanted to place it ina flower bed.
  8. I have been working on Uncle Sam whirligigs. I took one outside this afternoon and discovered the base is not heavy enough to enable the whirligig to remain upright. Presenty it rest on a 31/2 x 31/2x 2 inch block that is secured to a 3/4 x 6 x 6 inch piece. Any suggestions would be appriciated. He is fasten to my deck railing at the present time with a quicky clamp. Thanks
  9. My husband used a propane heater for a while, but now he has a corn furnace. I am not sure what size the building you're trying to heat. I do know that both of these kept our garage toasty warm in Marysville, Ohio. In fact we heat our home with 2 corn stoves. It's something to consider.
  10. Yes! It was designed by Clayton Baker 08", original pic from pdclipart.org. I posted this information with the cutting when I included it in my gallery last night. I found it extremely humorous considering the issue I am experiencing with my new computer and it's updated opperating system. My old computer utilized Windows original opperating system!
  11. These were made for two very special little people in my life who are adjusting after the loss of their dad. The pattern was purchased and can be located by Searching with the key words, "I Know I'm Somebody Scroll Saw Pattern."
  12. I found this pattern within the scrllsawer.com pattern vault and found it tickled my funny bone. Thought I would pass it on. (picture prior to Sanding!)
  13. Fantastic idea! I like it. Great job.
  14. I like this advice!
  15. I heard you talk about dipping the scroll saw project into lemon oil. Will the lemon oil interfer with gluing the finished projet to the felt?
  16. Congradulations on your new toy! I am relatively new to this hobby as well. I have found that everyone here a scroll saw village is wonderful in their support and advice. I look forward to seeing your work.
  17. Thanks Travis! I am presently trying to paint an Uncle Sam Whirligig. My hans has the "hebby gebbies" and I just cannot paint the stripes on either his hat or his pants. I opted to take a break and visit Scroll Saw Village for a while.
  18. when doing the cleaning of your saw and the vaccume hose becomes clogged, never blow through it when it is pointed towards your face.
  19. These a faux painting techniques. The grass was painted with a SEA SPONGE. I base coated the wood with a pea green, then I used the sponge to dab olive and evergreen over the base coat. The fence has five shades of blacks and browns. The base coat was black. I used a fan brush and layered the remaining colors from dark to light over the black, using what is refered to as a dry brush application. The trick is not to load up with a lot of paint on either technique. I use a lot of news paper to sponce off excess paint when I paint. Thanks!
  20. calgone, take me away!!!!
  21. I have been working on whirligigs. This is one I have been fussing with all week. I have been have issues with the crank and the linkage binding up . With some input from my family, I can now say the problem has been fixed . I put it in the clamp stand and took her outside this morning. As the wind caught the propellers, the crank freely spun, and the linkage enabled the horse to move up and down as to assimulate a gallop . Now I can finish painting and applying sealer.
  22. The work you put into this really shows. Where did you come up with this idea. I am totally at awe. Beautiful work!
  23. And in the process of gluing make sure not to glue yourself to the project!!! Watch the sander with your fingernails, mine are all filed flat and diaganally to the right side.
  24. I always put the tape on first, before I attach the pattern. I already had the pattern attached to this one, however, so I taped it to the second board as a trial. I never considered using the painters tape, because glare is an issue with my eyes. Thanks
  25. Very good discription and very well explained. I have been stack cutting two word art projects to try this method. So far everything is going well, except when the saw dust collects under the tape. I use my make ready knife and remove some of the tape to allow the saw dust to fly away. I was making it harder to comprehend by virtue of what I had found on the internet, which in terms of scrolling, made no sense. Thanks guys!
