    Welcome Sabrina. There are many good scroll saws available (new and used) and it's easy to submit my preference that satisfy my needs but may not satisfy yours. There are many variables when selecting a scroll saw and I would suggest take your time and research some of the more popular brands and the benefits they have to offer. Once you feel you know what your looking for in a scroll saw it's then just a matter of budget. When I chose my scroll saw twenty years ago there were two items that mattered most to me. A quality product and reliable service. Those two things have paid me in dividends and more.

    I use liquied bees wax. Apply with a cheese cloth, let sit for awhile and wipe dry and leave basket sit for a few days before adding fruit to it. You can apply additional coats as time goes on. Even mother in laws will be safe eating from your basket. Another product that's good is True and Tried Danish Oil and True and Tried Original Finsih availabe form Lee Valley.

    MDF has it's place and usefulness but definitely not in my shop. I don't want to be one dragging an oxygen tank behind me.The only ply I cut is BB, otherwise I only cut and use hardwoods using a high quality dust mask.
