  3. I got it done. I think my problem was I though my cutting skills were not good enough for the great pattern I got from TD. Then I got it in my thick head to go slow and follow the lines. this is what I got. Thank You TD for the great Pattern.
  4. I read quite awhile ago that drift can be help by puttin a fine file or stone again the right back side of the running blade. I have done this to blades that are real bad and it helped. you are tellin u an mine ages
  5. Thank you all for your response Roly. lawson56, Steve, I thought about doing that sort of thing but more like inlay. I was going to use the dremel to make cut-outs for the parts. Just don't think my skills are up to it. Kevin, thanks I didn't think of that but again with carving out of wood. My hands aint as steady as they once were. Russell, I like that idea. I think that maybe I will cut the front out put in a light wood frame, then scroll the names in the cedar I cut out and insert when needed. Just have think about it and see what other ideas come forth. Thanks, Bill
  6. I am having a problem with a design and need some help, any takers? A little history first, In high school (59-60) I built a red cedar box for my mom, When she passed I got the box back. Well we lost one of our fur kids and I have decided to put his remains in the box. I want to do his name and years. I have 11 inches by 4in high. I thought of inlay but don't want to take box apart. We have 2 more to go in later. The box has tile inlay on the top so names will have to go on front. It has clear coat on it now to show wood. I don't have pics now but will when finished. thanks for reading Bill
  7. I have a Porter-Cable that gives me very little problems. I started with a Craftsman and got lots of info from the web. The first I did was to replace the plastic center piece with a custom metal one. Gave her a tune up, meaning squared everything, filed set screws for holding blades. I have not broken a blade in over a year. I use FD blades mostly FDUR#5 from Wooden Teddy Bear. When changing blades I remove center piece for a good view and be sure bottom mount is same angle as top mount. I drilled the top tension handle crossways and put a bolt in it for better leverage. I use medium speed 90% of the time just changing up or done for fine work. I hope that this helps you out a little bit. like everyone says, Practice practice practice. Good Luck, Bill
  8. Thanks for posting that larry. as a young man I worked in the plywood industriy. I pulled 4x8 sheets of green veneer off of a chain belt, what a job. as for printed veneer I did some that we put cheap luan veneer on top and run it through a roller press that ingraved or printed a grain pattern to it. had many different rolls that printed pine board look and others.
