  1. Very sad news. RIP Mike
  2. Hi All, I am still trying out this new scroll saw thingy. I sourced a decent piece of 1/4" ply and used Olson #3 reverse tooth blade and was very pleased with the result. The design is by Chris Messier and many thanks to him. take care Don W
  3. That is amazing. Is there a tutorial or explanation of how you did this anywhere ? I would love to try this.
  4. Thanks again you guys, more great advice. I shall be some time in putting this all into practice.
  5. Hi I'm back, I made a zero clearance piece for my saw table today, fitted an Olson No 5 reverse tooth blade and had a great day. I think the project is a bit too advanced for me but it was fun trying, I will leave it for later. I have purchased a couple of books and will work my way through them, hopefully learning what I need as I go. I have received a great deal of help and advice from this forum and I would like to thank you all, no doubt I will be back with some more stupid questions.
  6. Hi Guys, I have managed a couple of pics. pic_1b shows the pattern by Christina Ellenburg I am using. pic_2b shows the piece in the middle of the wing that has broken off. pic_3 shows the parcel tape I have applied to both sides of the ply. I hope this explains a bit more clearly. take care Don W
  7. Thanks for that Guys. It is a very cheap piece of ply and I will get some proper ply when I can. I have some Asiatic ply and it is a bit harder than the stuff I am trying at the moment so I will give it a go later. I will also try the reverse tooth blades I have to see how they perform but will make a sandwich using this cheap ply as well. Thanks for all this advice.
  8. Hi All, I am having a fine time testing out my new Parkside scroll saw. One problem that has appeared is that the top layer of ply seems to break off quite easily, and I wondered if it was the quality of the plywood ? The saw is working very well and I am trying quite a few different (Olson) blades. I am cutting 1/4" (5mm) ply that I originally purchased for Pyrography and I am using a Crown tooth blade which cuts in both directions ooops I think I have just answered my question ? ?? Anyone any ideas ? take care Don W
  9. Very nice indeed Brian

  13. Hi, I have done Travis tutorial on intersecting word art, I used the Times New Roman font and the URW ChanceryL font that I have available on my Linux computer, it looks ok but I would like the Bird of Paradise font he mentions, I have downloaded it as a zip file but I can't get it to install in linux. Can anyone help me ? Don W

  16. Hi Chris and Welcome. I usually buy my blades from woodworkscraftsupplies.
  17. Thanks for the insight Travis. I had a look in last Sunday at your live stream and rather enjoyed it. I have just logged in and watched the first streaming which explained a lot about parcel tape, masking tape and double sided tape and there uses, very informative. Can't wait until tomorrow to catch the next episode. Well done and Thanks. take care Don W
  18. Great piece of work Brian. I don't like the green colour but this is entirely my opinion. The weather should be better in the morning and I am off to Perth for a club meeting, woodturning demo from a professional. take care Don W

  25. Hi Travis, That has cured it. I was working with the Inkscape Manual > Tutorials and had reset all sorts of settings. renaming the .xpl file seems to have cured it. take care Don W PS I have had a few goes at the Elk Desk Clock tutorial and it seems to be getting easier. I am looking for some new pictures to do the same thing, many thanks for the tuorials.
