    I have a request for some work. The customer wants to use something similar to the metal candle holders shown in this piece. Any idea where I might find them? Thanks. Jim

    I use the smallest blade I can get away with based on thickness and type of wood. For me, a little sanding of the edges seems to work sufficiently. I know they make puzzle blades, but I've never tried one. Jim

    I know I'm coming into this late, but what the heck. I have to agree with Rockytime, is this the end? I haven't read all the posts in this thread, just too overwhelming. What I have gleaned is that 1. There are probably more religious scrollers than atheistic ones. 2. I don't think there is any rule against posting and atheist themed pattern. 3. If you decide to post such a pattern, there will be those who feel obligated to editorialize for or against it. That's just a fact of life, no big deal. Sticks and stones, etc. 4. Good looking pattern, and I'd like to cut it when I get done cutting the Christmas ornaments I'm working on now. I base my decisions to cut or not cut a pattern on whether or not I like it, for whatever reason. That said, let's move on. Jim

    Kev, I'm jumping into this a little late, but what the heck, timing has never been my strong suit. Let's face it, when it comes to saws you're a beast. You use them so much you dominate them then destroy them. You are truly the "Sawminator". When it comes to your customers, you're kind of a softie. Sometimes you're going to get burned, but generally people love you for your generosity. I say keep up the good work! Jim

    I bought a Ridgid from Home Depot after reading good reviews. It's worked very well for me. It's a little more expensive, $199.00 but has been well worth it. Jim

    Well thanks folks. I guess I'll never really know for sure. I agree with Scrolling Steve though, the price was definitely right. I've started on a project with it and it is a joy to cut. Jim

    A friend of mine retrieved two 1 X 6 boards a neighbor was planning on taking to the dump. He wasn't sure what the wood was, only that judging by the weight it must be a hardwood. He though perhaps hickory. It kinda looks like hickory, but I'm just not sure. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim

    This stuff is supposed to be environmentally friendlier and I think less flammable than the clear type. Both are classified as odorless. Not sure what it IS good for. Jim.

    I had the same experience. It's just kinda weird stuff. It's still sitting on the shelf in my shop and will until I figure out a way to get rid of it. Jim

    Installed the knobs today. The modification for the lower knob took less than 5 minutes with a Dremel. As far as I am concerned this was one of the best investments I could have made. My arthritic hands immediately noticed the difference. I've seen the do it yourself versions which may work just as well but I've never tried them so I can't compare. Although ordering them is kind of old school, I had to snail mail a check. I received the Knobs within 10 days. They have my vote.

    I'm sure many of you saw this recently on Steve Good's blog. These knobs fit both DeWalt and Excalibur scroll saws. To me they appear to be an answer for those of us with arthritic hands. Mine just came in the mail today and I'm excited to give them a try. I'll add to this post after I've tried them and let you all know if they do what they're supposed to. Jim

    Thanks for all the kind comments. The kids seemed genuinely pleased with the plaque. We are so proud of them. We made the trip from NW Montana to San Antonio Texas to see their graduation from Air Force basic. It was almost overwhelming. Every week they graduate 350 to 400 recruits who have volunteered to serve either four or six years defending this great country of ours. Observing those kids (I'm old enough to refer to them that way) exhibit the discipline and pride in what they've accomplished fills me with pride and comfort in the knowledge that they will be protecting us. Whatever our politics may be, I believe our country is safe in the hands of these young Americans. They will keep us safe. May God bless them. Jim.

    After reading all the comments, I decided to just replace them. On amazon I found a set for $46.00 or a double set for $74.99. I have Amazon Prime so shipping was free. I went with the double set and figured that should hold me for awhile. Thanks for all the help. Jim

    Generally I use Olsen blades: 2/0 reverse 2 reverse 5 reverse PGT 9 reverse PGT for thicker stuff. Jim

    This may not be the correct forum for this topic, but here goes. I have a DeWalt DW735 planer. The blades are nicked and in need of sharpening. There is no one in my little town who can do this. Is there a place to send blades anyone would recommend. Also is there a sharpening system out there that anyone has used and might recommend? Thanks. Jim

    My oldest granddaughter and her husband just finished their advanced school and will soon be reporting for their first duty station at Nellis AFB. I thought this would be fun, and fairly appropriate. This is a Sue Mey pattern cut on oak with a poplar backing. Jim

    This begs another question in my mind. Many on this site seem to be critical of the DeWalt type 2. It's what I have and having never used a type 1, have nothing to compare. Is there a significant difference in performance? Am I missing out on a nirvana scrolling experience by having a type 2? Enquiring minds would like to know. Jim

    I posted this earlier, but I recently discovered that the craft store Michael's has a supply of baltic birch plywood. It comes in smaller sizes and may be a little more expensive than other outlets, but it is the only source in my town. Jim

    I too prefer Olson blades. I think Flying Dutchmen is a well made product and would probably last longer, but I just can't control them as well. Two things I generously budget for are blades and sand paper. Try a bunch of different types and find the one that suits you. If the sawing changes, change the blade. Jim

    My solution: Put them in the saw and wait for them to break. Throw the remainder in the garbage and find the whisky. Spiral blades, truly spawn of Satan. Jim
