  1. First try at box with wooden hinges. I glued the hinges on with the top open. It does not close tight now. I am not sure if it is the hinge or the way I glued them in. Should I have attached with the lid closed?
  2. Almost done, started this in Jan. A bit more sanding and a finish. Glossy or semi ? I can't decide but leaning towards the glossy. I had many mistakes, covered them up as best I could. Big picture, 28 x 32.
  3. I have cut out a marker to be used outside. I used 3/4" cypress. Should I leave it natural or put an exterior poly on it? I am leaning towards leaving it natural but not sure what weathered cypress looks like.

  7. Obsessed Thanks so much for the offer BUT.... I am in west Jefferson, about 20 miles from Boone.
  8. I have a couple of boards that I want to plane from 1" to 3/4. This piece is Saple. I don't have this need very often. Any suggestions on a planner that works well for occasional use? Would a hand held do the job?

Hi Marg, Check out this website: Intarsia.com Go to help, FAQ then scroll down to wonder wheel. There is also a video. This wheel lets you put lines in your work that looks like hair.
  13. Thanks Dick, I kind of suspected it was not a good thing for our use.
  14. Thanks for the very useful information everyone. Just checked on line with Lowes, they have Jasco fast drying and slow drying. It says it is milky and somewhat thicker than " normal " mineral spirits. Any experience with this or fast vs slow drying?
  15. I have completed a couple of trivets and now I am looking for ideas on how to finish them. I have not worked with any oils. So 1. what do you use, 2 how do you apply it. Thanks

  20. Hi. I am from the High Country of NC. I am retired and live a few miles from the Blue ridge Parkway with my wife of 45 years. We are up at 3500' so the climate here in the 'south' is very similar to my birthplace, Chicopee, MA in Western MA. We are about 90 miles northeast of Charlotte, NC and we love it here. I have been working intarsia for about a year now and I am doing some scroll saw cutouts also I have posted in the gallery under labonteart some of the things I have done. I attended a 3 day class on Intarsia at the Judy Roberts Studio in Tn. last Oct. and that was most interesting and enjoyable. Looking forward to learning a lot from all of you Rick
