I just bought this saw last week. It replaced a pin in only Craftsman that was probably 15 years old. I've cut a couple project and I like the saw. The pin in blades are easy to change with no tools. The pinless blades are a different story, it comes with a T-alan wrench that you have to use. The underside blade holder assembly is a pain in the backside to get right with pinless blades. Or, maybe I just need more practice doing it, IDK. Overall, it's much quieter with less vibration and it comes with an air thingy to blow the chips away. It does not come with a work light. I got a $14 LED light from Walmart took the base off and hung it above the saw, works great. It's entry level I think, certainly not built like a DW tool but that's not what you're paying for.
  2. Chief Warrant Officer 3. I'm Active Duty Army, it's actually a project I did for myself.
  3. Not a complicated project but I thought it turned out well.
  4. Thanks for the advise. I've cut my first piece to the extent that I can with pin in blades. Guess I'll have to tackle these pinless blades now.
  5. Just bought a new craftsman saw, works well so far for this rookie. It came with a couple pin in and and couple pinless blades. The pin in blades work well. The pinless blade I can't seem to get the tension right. Is there some sort of right way to do it or is it just a matter of getting some experience?
  6. I hear everyone talk about Flying Dutchman blades. Where is a reputable source to buy these things? Some of the websites that come up when I google them don't look all that official.
  7. I'm just getting started in scrolling. After a few days research I've decided on the Craftsman saw. It gets decent reviews, doesn't break the bank and has the required features for a beginner hobbiest. My next question is blades. I'm going to get some spiral and reverse cut to start. The question is is there a guide somewhere that will tell me what number and what tpi is best for a certain type wood? Or, is this something that only comes with trial and error until I earn my scrolling black belt?

  9. Maybe I'll just go without beer for a couple months and save a few pennies for the porter cable at Lowes for $199.
  10. It does take pinless blades. I have one of their drill presses that has performed well so far. I don't want total junk but I'm also not ready to invest in a dewalt or delta.
  11. I also now understand what floaters are, the dot for the eye. Lol And be careful drilling pilot holes. Some moron accidentally drilled a pilot hole in the r... Oh yeah, that was me. Lol
  12. Anyone have any firsthand experience with WEN 3920 16-inch Variable Speed Scroll Saw With Flexible LED Light? They have them on Amazon for $110 right now. I'm new to scrolling so this is only a hobby at this point.
  13. I'm a scroll saw noob. I had never turned one on until last night. I picked up an old 16" craftsman on CL for $25 so I figured why not. A few things I learned from my maiden voyage: 1. You guys make it look easier than it is 2. I need one of those blower things and a better lighting in that portion of my shop. 3. I'm officially hooked on scrolling now. 4. I must try reverse cut and spiral blades, all I have is some old standard blades that came with the saw. My first rough cut piece is attached.
  14. Dick, Where can I find this pattern?
