Thanks. Never though of the holder but that makes sense. I'm a bottom feeder. Does it make a difference? I'll check out all the recommendations. Appreciate the feedback.

Hi, I looked in past articles because I'm sure I saw this question before but can't find it. The bottom screw clamp on my Dewalt 788 won't hold the blade on. Is it just worn out and needs replacing, or could there be other problems associated with why it won't hold the blade in? Just wanted to get confirmation in case I need to buy more than the screw clamp.

I was wondering the same thing about the click and save. Bandaidman mentioned his blade holder. Can you share a picture of your blade holder.

I agree with Scrappile. The first one I bought was a cheap small Craftsman scrollsaw because I wanted to see if I liked scrolling or not. I just couldn't do nice work and started getting discouraged thinking I wasn't any good at it. Then I bought the Dewalt and I was so surprised at the difference it made. The same thing happened when I started wood turning. I bought cheap tools and struggled. When I bought quality tools, it was like cutting butter. Now I always buy decent tools and equipment right off the bat. Well worth it. And, quality tools are probably easier to sell then cheap ones - I think??

Thanks everyone. It was my first attempt and I had to redo the design a couple of times before settling on this one. I used a router key hole bit to put a hole in the back so it could hand flush against the wall. The dotted outline happened because of hiding crooked cutting but I think if I was to do them again, I would still include the dotted outline. Now I'm trying to come up with an idea to scroll something for my little Miata roadster that I bought a few months ago. I'm putting it in the 'car corral' at the Texas State Fair in October. That might take a little deeper creativity. ha.

I might not be a professional scroller but I'm a perfectionist at hiding mistakes. haha.

Made these for my grandkids last Christmas to hang on their wall. They loved it. Letters might be a bit crooked but they didn't really care!

Thanks Marg and Larry. I don't know if others are hard on themselves but I'm terrible for not allowing myself to think I'm OK at this. I haven't touched a tool all summer for two reasons. Temperatures here are high 90's to over 100 so the shop gets too hot. 2nd reason was, I traded in my big SUV and bought a little Mazda Miata 6 speed and have been having a blast driving back roads with the Miata club. Now I'm trying to come up with a pattern or idea for scroll sawing my Miata, so that tells me I still love working with the wood. I notice a lot of articles talk about the free software GIMP. Is it easier to learn than Photoshop? I have Photoshop but I don't use it much so I keep forgetting all the cool stuff it can do. Now that I'm talking on this forum, the excitement to get back into the shop is increasing.

Hopefully I uploaded these correctly. The first one is a cross I did last year. That was the only cross I did. The second one I did for my grandson who lives in Canada. It's 5 pieces. Third one was a Christmas present for my hair dresser. The D-2 was the logo of her Salon. The Texas one is self explanatory. I love making anything Texas. And the last picture is of snowmen I turned on the lathe last year. Thanks for the top to go to the Articles section.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. A few years ago I got into scroll sawing and loved it. Started out with a small Craftsman and ended up buying a nice Dewalt. I've been on the Steve Good email distribution list for a while now and that's been good information for sure. The problem I have is, I also jumped head first into wood turning, bought every wood working tool that ended with the word 'saw' and then thought I needed to learn how to do wood burning. I made several things with the scroll saw and the lathe,along with numerous other things with all the other tools I bought. Needless to say, although the things I made are nice, I did not perfect my skills with any one tool. But, the machine I seemed to go back to the most is the scroll saw so this fall when I get back in our workshop, I want to focus on doing scroll saw work more then any of the other ones. And that's why I joined this Forum!
