  1. One thing that dad and I need to do is to get some organizer for the scrap wood. Good ideas here. I have a three drawer plastic tub.
  2. did you make that twig, or already have it?
  3. What do you mean a mop? Do you have a picture?
  4. My last piece my finish was 220, but in between coats 350. Seemed to work good.
  5. Dad, I have an eye for woodworking and yes you are too a wonderful artist and great at what you do. I believe that you facebook page includes prices and they are all very reasonable.
  6. I do not scroll. Only intarsia. I am going to try to make enough pieces by November to put them in a Christmas bazaar. I think that something simple I will price by the piece. For example. The Santa I am making now is ten pieces, and under 8x11. I am going to ask $15 each. Although i know they will take at least 4 hours each to build. A bird with feathers I am going to ask $25. If dad enters some ornaments..... $5 each. If I can get 40 pieces done by then, at an average of $15, then that will be $600 and will buy some wood and materials for the shop. I will let you know how that goes. I am thinking at that price, with my limited experience, I will be happy. Not doing it for a living, just for the fun. But when I get good, then the price will go up.
  7. I decided not to use the mineral oil I did buy a spendy satin water base finish. I used the steel wool on one piece but did not clean it enough between coats. I agree it is not a best choice to do each individual piece before assembling, but i think it is a good idea to finish the piece before mounting it to a back board. Just saying. Thanks everyone for the tips.
  8. I post most of my stuff on bragging rights
  9. Thanks I will be sure to do that before I give it to her/
  10. My dad has a lot more talent then me. I am just a copy catter. He is so good at so many things. I like to think that I give him a run for his money.
  11. Thanks Jeff. It is a small piece, only about an 8 to 10 inch wing span.
  12. The bird is pretty small. This comes from a pattern that includes a flower in it. I would guesstimate the longest wing span to be about 8 to ten inches. It is pretty small.
  13. I am not a scroller, but my guess is that the cutting is very much the same. It actually does not have to be as exact because the shaping and sanding will account for the mis cuts. My dad said I can not use cuss words if I get off the line, instead I just say "challenge"
  14. I definitely think that it is better to finish a piece prior to mounting it to the background, but not sure i would want to finish it by individual pieces.
  15. Dad I might have a few tricks to share withyou, but when it comes to being an intarsia expert...you win. You are so much better.
  16. Thanks. I am pretty happy with the finish. It is so much better to finish the piece before mounting it to any background
  17. Thanks
  18. Well he set down some rules, so i try real hard to pick up after myself. Luckily he has his old saw still.
  19. What a powerful difference the color makes. I hope you continue to feel good
  20. I would agree because there is not much left
  21. Ok sorry I could not show my last piece but I like this one also. I made this for a friend at work. I finished it the same day I started it. I like the finish. It is a satin water base finish with three coats and 320 sanding between each .
  22. i am sorry. I do not know how to fix it. Would have loved to shared it.
  23. Thanks for all of that
  24. I never used a water base satin finish. I made the mistake of using steel wool and not cleaning it good enough between coats. Thanks for the compliment.
  25. I am pretty happy with this piece, except for the finish needs a little work. I think next time i will finish before i glue together. I learned a lot on this one. Thought it was going to be perfect. Oh well. [attachment=34131:4th piece.jpscroll down I will try to subnit it again from my phone
