Completed my first "official" scroll project. I love the sun/moon images. I have them all over. Now, I have one that I created. I put a couple of coats of deft on it. Decided that there was no better place to put it than on my new cabinet from where it came. The first of many to come. First lesson learned.....relax.

Thank you! I have been trying to find how the tape is a lubricant. I was looking at the adhesive.....not. polyvinyl carbamate If you need a chemistry lesson, google that. The Release Agent The release agent is made of a complex combination of compounds of oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen. It is the most complicated part of the tape as if it is too oily it won't stay as a tape roll and if it's too sticky, you won't be able to use the roll. https://www.mayzo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/PSTC-Release-Coat-Paper.pdf

Thanks! all for the comments. I have impressed myself w/this one. I needed the planer yesterday to mill the material for the drawers... it takes less than a minute to switch the machines. Created a couple of drawers. Nothing fancy. I had to stretch my cabinet from the plans for the length of the ss and the in/out feed tables for the planer, I have a drawer on each side.

You know how when you....well, maybe not you.....but me for sure....get that itch for a new toy........you.....well, maybe not you...but me for sure.....you get the new toy before you know where you're going keep it. When I stumbled onto the idea of getting a scroll saw to use for the really fine work on my band saw boxes, I, of course, had to scratch that itch. At just about that time, I had purchased the materials to build a new cabinet for the planer. As I suddenly had a second toy for my tiny shop...what to do? Remembered seeing some fliptop cabinets on Pintrest. It did not take much time to find the one I wanted. Got it up and running this afternoon. Still needs drawers. Not sure I'm satisfied w/the knobs. ....so, far, very satisfied w/the effort.

Beautiful piece of furniture. I'm a big fan of using common 2x material for building furniture, etc.

Very nice. Could be said about many things in life, not just scrolling.

Wabi sabi --Wabi sabi is a Japanese way of appreciating the beauty of impermanence and imperfection. “Wabi-sabi…nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.” Recognizing that we live in a world where perfection is impossible, wabi sabi is a way to engage the world as we find it. ------------------------------------- I still don't see it. I see an amazing piece of art. Wabi sabi.

How would you have oriented to the grain differently? It looks pretty good to me.

Clockman, thank you! Just what I needed. Yes I need to study. I downloaded the blade chart from Olson. That alone will need some study. Yes I am buying small packs of blades to try time before I start buying a gross of one kind of blade. I am going to read and re read, study your post. Thanks! again.
-
How many different blade sizes/kinds do you? Don't really want to buy a gross of one kind of blade and find I don't like it. If you only had 6 different blades...what would they be?
-
Thanks! for all the replies. Good info. I knew what the answers were going to be....just curious. When I get my project farther along I'll post some pics. You will understand the questions about the plywood. The blades I am using are Olson. Package labels them as 9/6. ....so, I'm still learning the nomenclature. How do you reference these blades? What is a good source for blades?
-
If you bend a blade.....is it good/bad to continue to use it. I bent a blade and it seems to be fine once it is tensioned. Are ss sanding strips any good? Got a little project going using 3/4" plywood. Finish/sanded on one side. Any way to prevent chip out on really close cuts. I'm using a 9/6 double reverse tooth blade.

This was a plaque that you had purchased and it was in some type of plastic shrink wrap?

Something occurred to me..................
justdraftn replied to OCtoolguy's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Hi....I'm just....draftn. Road cyclist. Riding in someone's draft is the sweet spot. You use 60% less energy. You take your turn at the pull then drop back and draft. You can call me whatever you want.... just don't call me late for dinner. -
This is not a band saw box....this is a scroll saw box.
-
Great idea!

..............band saw. My first project on the Delta. This is scrap 2x4, laminated for practice making puzzle boxes. Cut to block size on the band saw......the rest of the work done on the Delta. I'm giving myself a not bad for my vast ~10 hrs of experience. I'm thinking redwood would be a better choice. Much softer. That doug fir 2x4 is pretty hard. ...so, instead of thinking outside the box.....get into the box. I'll see you on the road.

...if that was aimed at me.....I got news for 'ya...... I turned 67 on the 14th. I'm a Pi child. ....so, I will be looking for your next design. ....from one fish to another....happy birthday.

I like this, a lot. Is all the pipe just regular PVC stuff from HD? I have a PowerTec air filter in my basement shop. Works very well. I have the box fan w/furnace filter mounted over the table saw in the garage. It does a good job w/dust.
-
That is a very stout looking stand. I like your vacuum system. So, you are vacuuming the dust off the top of the table as opposed to blowing it off. What are the blue flex tubes? Where did you get those? I like the idea of sucking it all up before it gets blow all over.
-
octoolguy, thanks! for the offer. I have a very small shop.....everything has to move. I was getting ready to build a new stand for the planer...but now I am thinking of a stand for both the planer and scroller. We'll see.

Lower blade guard.....stay or go?

Thank you! That is exactly what I wanted to hear.
