  1. Here is my latest project for a friend at work. Made from mystery wood that came from a knife block cut into individual boards. Hope he likes it. But, I haven't applied a finish yet and am looking for suggestions. I'll be putting magnets on the bottom for the cubicle wall. Comments appreciated.
  2. I finally got this bear done. 1/2" plywood plaque. Mostly FD Polar #1 blades. Saw tooth hanger in back. Various stains, 3 coats spar urethane gloss.
  3. Hey Folks, Don't often post things I've made, I'm but kinda proud of how this baby turned out. My daughter is a US Federal Probation Officer in Iowa. I wanted to do something for her to celebrate her accomplishments. I saw a number of members on this forum posting military type plaques of various styles and that got my thought processes going. She showed me what her department seal looked like so I took all the tips and ideas gleaned here and came up with this representation. It is about 16 inches in diameter. The bottom layer is 1/2" Walnut, middle layer is 1/4" Sycamore and the top layer 3/16" Walnut. I milled all my own wood. I used Inkscape to come up with a cutting patterns. The color picture of the flag is a blowup of an image I found on a photo web site (royalty free). To help mitigate wood expansion the bottom layer Walnut is cut in an octagonal shape and then splines used to join it to a 1/2" plywood backer. The middle and top layers are loosely screwed to the layer beneath so hopefully there is enough room left for any movement of the wood. I used a FD UR #5 on the bottom layer, FD #3 on the middle layer and a FD #2/0 on the top layer. For all the veining I first cut the vein with a flat blade then came back and recut with a FD #2/0 spiral following the initial blade kerf. Finished with a Deft Satin Lacquer spray. I have 16 hours in cutting time on all the layers and probably another couple hours for assembly and finishing. Thanks for letting me share. Larry
  4. Jan saw this and told me she really liked it, so here it is. Pattern by Kenny Hopkins, 11"X 14" and more of my reclaimed laminated maple. Jeff
  5. Found this pattern on Pinterest and really liked it, decided to cut it on a plaque that I had laying around. Stuck the pattern on top of the plastic wrap, figuring it would make removing the pattern a dream. That part went well. What I did not anticipate was the pattern bouncing while cutting because it was on the plastic, not the wood Thank goodness for tape and finger nails. Lesson learned, will use Press and Seal wrap next time AFTER I remove the plastic. Jeff
  6. This is what I gave my wife in Dec 2016 for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was an un-expected surprise for her. I had to cut it (over a couple of nights), oil it and hang it where she couldn't see it if she was to walk into my work place Made it from 3/4 Walnut, no stain. Just finished it with Natural Danish Oil. Pattern by Steve Good. Please give me your comments. Thanks Sam
  7. I received a request from a police helicopter pilot, asking me if I could transform his Air Support Unit's logo, into a plaque, for his office. He must have been happy, as he ordered a second one!
  8. Small Giraffe plaque 17cm x 11cm or roughly 6 x 4 inches cut from reclaimed hardwood. The wood was originally the side panel of an old drawer.
  9. Been a long time since I've posted or even been on here , life is busy Amen ! Anyway made this Chicago Cubs Plaque for a friend at work for his daughter for a Christmas present this year . Made out of 3/4 " Red Oak , the pattern was one of Steve Good's patterns - but had to be altered because Chicago has two pro Baseball teams . The customer has seem a picture of it cut and in this stage and was pleased , it'll look better with a light stain and several coats of lacquer . Hope you like it too .
