  1. I have an inflatable drum/flap sander and a 4" belt/disc sander... Neither, however, is variable speed... Excuse the extreme mess... I am a VERY disorganized person...
  2. Absolutely... I wish I would have contoured the outer edges a lot more too especially on the head... I'll need to pick me up a better belt sander so that I can do an easier job of it...
  3. I am going to attempt to use Sycamore and Walnut on a small project to see if I like it better using hardwoods... If that doesn't work out right I'll probably just give up on intarsia altogether... Not sure... I'm not hard on myself with my fretwork projects, it is just with intarsia that my confidence falters... I like Judy Gale Roberts' site... I peruse it every now and then... I purchased the following book years ago...
  4. Ok, so I tried intarsia again... I tried to slow down and do a good job but the anxiety was still too much... All I could think about was getting the project completed so my stress would go away... Anyway, the snake is made entirely of Pine with various paints and stains... The frame is Western Red Cedar painted black... The backer board is Birch stained Carmel... I may make one last attempt at intarsia by using hardwoods instead of soft... I don't know exactly how to feel about this one...
  5. Great job... It kind of throws me off though because it is actually Sundance and Butch... lol
  6. Lol... Yeah, her reaction to the finished product was awesome... She really likes it...
  7. No, I didn't light it... It does look like it might be lighted in the photo but that is just poor camera work... The shadow in the center is me holding the cell phone over it... (It is sitting on the rug in my man cave)... The light is coming from the ceiling fan above...
  8. True enough, the cutting was the easy part...
  9. I don't think I quite like the premise of this piece but I have to comment to say I'm in awe of the craftsmanship it took to make it... Saw on and keep the awesome work coming!
  10. Not much of a brag really... Just showing a simple giraffe shadow box because my wife likes giraffes...
  11. My 2nd one was fairly unremarkable but my 3rd one, to this day, remains my favorite woodworking project I've ever completed... Edit: Ok, to clarify, this wasn't technically my 3rd scroll saw project completed... It was technically my 3rd scroll saw project started... It took me all of five years to actually complete the dome clock because it moved around with me unfinished from base to base while I was in the Air Force...
  12. The motorcycle pattern came from P.A. Barney... I would post a link but I have tried to find it again online and all of the links come up broken...
  13. Better late than never... My first project of 2019... Not sure if I should frame it or just leave it as is...
  14. I don't know... You'd be surprised to find out that the project didn't seem that difficult... Believe in yourself and you might be pleasantly surprised... Thank you for your post...
  15. Those clock movements are kind of irritating... They work well but they run on a single AA battery and they die so quickly... I don't even try to keep them running... I just let them sit around as part of the decor... Your Lord's Prayer projects are very nice... I've never tried to scroll a project with letters in it... I have good patience but I'm not so sure I could do that... As a side note, I am a scroll saw hobbyist only... I never sell my work pretty much for the same reason you listed...
  16. I've already posted some of my woodworking successes and I am quite humbled to have received such great feedback from the Scroll Saw Village Community... In fear of being rude, I figured I'd get on here and introduce myself... I started woodworking in 1981 when I was enrolled in a building construction class at a vocational technical school for 3 years at the same time I was in high school... I dropped out of the Vo-Tech program my senior year in order to take some college prep classes... After I left high school, I tried my luck in college where my vocation became computer programming... I hated college so much, i dropped out after my freshman year and I joined the Air Force as a computer operator... During my Air Force career, I continued to dabble in woodworking... In 1996, I made the waterbed-style headboard below... After that, I was pretty sure I wanted to get deeper into the woodworking hobby... I started collecting more and more woodworking tools and supplies and carted them around from base to base... I retired from the Air Force late in 2004 and shortly thereafter I received a catalog in the mail from Wildwood Designs... The catalog contained some amazing scroll saw projects that really intrigued me... I had never used a scroll saw before but I was hoping it couldn't be too difficult so I bought a $150 Dremel scroll saw from a local hardware store, ordered a nice wall-mount grandfather clock plan from the catalog, and set about cementing my interest in the hobby... This story is getting kind of long so for the sake of brevity, I'll just say the success I had with my first scroll project was beyond my expectations... I've been intrigued with scrolling ever since...
  17. Yes, sir... That is absolutely the first project I ever attempted using a scroll saw... In fact, I bought my first scroll saw especially to do it... Nobody was around at the time to tell me it would be a difficult project for a beginner.. I guess that may be why I was able to pull it off... The plan was purchased from Wildwood Designs who bought Cherry Tree Toys a bunch of years back... Here is a link to the plan: https://cherrytreetoys.com/wall-hanging-grandfather-clock-plan/
  18. Thanks you too for your kind words. All of my clock patterns were purchased from Wildwood Designs who merged with Cherry Trees toys some years back. I haven't become acquainted with finescrollsaw.com but I'll be sure and check it out very soon.
  19. Thank you so much for the kind words. The scroll saw I've been using is an old Dremel 1680. I keep telling myself I'll upgrade some day but since the saw does what I want it to do, I haven't done so yet. Yes, I still have all of these pieces. My dome clock is on a stand in the corner of my man cave, the motorcycle is on the wall of my man cave, the tower clock is mounted on a shelf in my living room and the grandfather clock stands in a corner of my living room next to the entertainment center. Maybe that is more information than you wanted, heh. The dome clock was started in 2006 and moved around with me from place to place while I was in the Air Force. I was fortunate to not have it get torn up in the moves. I finally got around to finishing it in May of 2011.
  20. I'm a newbie at Scroll Saw Village and I just wanted to show a few of my favorite scroll projects I've finished... I started scrolling around 2005 when I made a wall clock for my wife's anniversary present... Since then, I really got into making fretwork clocks... My favorite so far is the brown dome clock that was so fun to make...
  21. I bought a cheap Dremel scroll saw a few years back and made this clock as an anniversary present for my wife.... She loves it...
