  1. Hi ya'll I was at my local Lowes going through their craft wood and bought a 1/2 x 6 x 4 ft poplar board that is entirely purple. It's unique looking and beautiful so I bought it. However, I read somewhere that this color may fade to brown in a relatively short amount of time. Has anyone ever encountered or used this kind of poplar before? Will it fade? Can i coat it with something before it fades? ( polycrilic or polyeurathane ) Can you scroll something after you have coated it? Any insight would be appreciated..........Thanx.....forrest
  2. Thanx ya'll..........I appreciate the responses..... As a jumping off point, I think I may give the Harbor Freight kit a try...Thanx again.....Forrest
  3. Hi guys and gals, I'm not sure if this the right forum for this question. I am looking for an airbrush kit to buy. I want to spruce up some of my scroll work. I would appreciate any any advice I could get. Am looking for something good but economical. Thanx in advance..............Forrest
  4. who paint their fretwork patterns. I have been looking for a way to spice up my projects. I was struck when I ran across marcelafgan's work in the pattern section. I would love to try adding color to my work through paint. I don't know what kind of paint to try for the effects I have seen. ( acrylic? ) It looks like some of the paint may have been thinned on some of the projects. Can someone here get me headed in the right direction? I suppose the colors I have seen were paint and not dye. I want to thank everyone for the help I received in my past posts. This a heckuva cool site...Thanx.....Forrest
  5. Thanks for replying to my question. I'm going to take some of my BB ply and experiment with different ways to finish my projects. From reading other posts I know there are several different things I can try. If I come up with something that pops I'll let you know....Thanx
  6. Just reread your post and it appears that it was BB ply. However, I need advice on how to spice up my BB ply cuttings as far as color goes. I'm tired of looking at white all the time.
  7. You replied to a post from a guy in Dec. and posted a picture of a basset hound. The wood was a rich but light colored brown. Was that cutting done on BB ply? If so, how did you get that color on BB? Thanx.....
  8. Thanks for the input ya'll. I think I'll go with some 1mm and # 68's from Mike's as that is where i get my blades. Now i will be able to attack some of the smaller cuts.
  9. Hi ya'll....I'm just now at the point in my scroll sawing journey where I am wanting to do some intricate fret work patterns. I have a good set of drill bits and some of them are very small, but not small enough. Looks like i'm going to need a chuck adapter and some micro bits. I'm curious as to what ya'll use and where you got them. I saw where Harbor freight had 30 micro bits for $2.99 but that seems awfully cheap. Any help would be appreciated.....Thanx
  10. I hear what you're saying about the fine points....I think i'll do this pattern both ways and report back.
  11. There are some wonderful patterns in the pattern library. I am really keen to do the Owl Eye pattern, but I do not know if a spiral or flat blade would be best. I am interested to learn what other scrollers would use and why. Could some of ya'll chime in with some feedback? Thanks to Mr. Botas and all the scrollers who frequent this forum. Gig em Aggies.
  12. Thanx for the replies...I just bought some FD spirals and trying to figure out on what kinds of patterns to use them on.Thinking of trying a portrait and am figuring that might be a place where they would be used. Correct?
  13. Hi ya'll....Not much of a talker(typer). I am relatively new to scroll sawing and my name is Forrest. This is one heck of a website and I have picked up many tips and tricks by reading past entries into the General scroll sawing forums....Thanks for that. I was wondering if any of ya'll have done any Dearing patterns and do you use spiral blades exclusively....Thanks....Forrest
