  1. I saw that too! I think it's either a discontinued item or the website is wrong. I couldn't see any pictures of the 900 one and it gave a 404 error when I clicked on it. The actual tool is the Marathon that's made in Korea. That's a better price though on Amazon than the marathon, plus you won't have to wait on customs if shipping outside Canada.
  2. I'm not sure on that one, sorry.
  3. I just got one about a month ago (strangely the same time I started doing segmentation/intarsia) and I have to say I love it. It accepts bits from my dremmel tool pack and makes sanding over edges a snap. My first segmentation project I sanded by hand as my dremmel was way to bulky to do it effectively and the second project I used the rotary and it was a night and day difference. The foot pedal is great and the tool is very easy to hold in your hand like a pencil. Bits also can be swapped out in about 5 seconds. My only con I have so far is the quick disconnect for bits. When you tighten the bit by torquing the tool in two different directions, it is loose when locked and tight when open. Just seems like it should be the other way around, but it doesn't interfere with using it. If you end up getting it I hope you enjoy it. Cheers
  4. Very beautiful work
  5. Nice looking shop you have there!
  6. My first segmentation project as a housewarming present for some family friends. I wasn't a fan of the black wood stain that I used so if I do it again I'll probably make the cat mat black. I got the design from Shelia Landry's website. https://sheilalandrydesigns.com/
  7. Very nice!
  8. A little project I did for the wife after she saw something similar at a Kohls. She wanted to buy it and I refused claiming I could do better! The top piece miter joints were a little off, but I'm probably going to change the top out so I can put an empty bottle of wine inside it with the lights in the bottle.
  9. Very nice. Being that it's outside, what kind of wood and topcoat did you use?
  10. Great job!
  11. Great idea, I may need to make one of those.
  12. Looks great! Unique project that would look nice above any fireplace.
  13. Very nice!
  14. Great detail and cutting work!
  15. Both look great. That fretwork on the horses is amazing!
  16. Nice smooth cuts, looks great!
  17. Welcome! The short time I've been here I've already learned so much. Add to that stacked acrylic cutting!
  18. Awesome, thanks for the info! I'll start with the foot pedal and hopefully that fixes it
  19. Hi everyone, As I was finishing the cuts on my latest project I noticed my speed on my RBI 226VS would change to a slower speed unintentionally and sometimes almost stop. I'd kill the power with my foot pedal, wait a second and start again and it would continue to normal speed, but sometimes also start to stutter again. Ever since I got the saw (12 years ago) I noticed that if I ever changed the speed setting while it was running the saw would "hiccup" (technical term there) as if power was surging to it. As such, I figured the variable speed dial was turning on it's own due to the vibrations from the saw, but it was in the same spot. A slight turn of the dial in the off position seemed to fix the issue and it hasn't reoccurred. The project I was working on was 1/2" poplar when the issue started. Also, the only preventative maintenance I've ever done on the saw is cleaning without disassembly, caring for the cast iron to, and replacing the blade holders. Just curious if anyone else has ever had this problem. Cheers, Dave
  20. Interesting stuff here about Cedar. I just watched a video about how Cedar is a unique wood as dgman said in his post. What happened to you reminds me of the time I experimented with a design that I put clear packing tape over...thought it would help cool the blade, yeah just got dust stuck underneath and made it next to impossible to see the line haha.
  21. To just walk away from the saw when things aren't going well. I was so stubborn during my first few projects and if I started drifting off the lines I'd just get angry and it'd get worse from there. I'd push my way through to the end and the project looked terrible. My old next door neighbor backed this up and told me that some days you should just work on a different tool if the scroll saw isn't working out.
  22. When I first started compound cuts I practiced on some 1.5"x1.5" pine...it cut like butter. Zebra wood was a little difficult, but manageable...ebony...never again...never again! I'll stick to the lathe in the future with that beast of a wood!
  23. First off, great job on your project! I'm also a WW2 aviation geek and picked up this print when I was stationed in Germany. The ME262 was definitely an amazing machine, but limited as you said by it's flight time and late entry into the war.
  24. I took your advice and dipped a sanded ebony and zebra wood piece in the 50/50 mixture, completely darkened it out. This picture is after about 3 hours of drying. I placed another offending "color changing piece" behind the treated one to illustrate how drastic of a change it was. Once it has fully dried I'll apply a spray coat of Miniwax semi-gloss. Thanks again!
  25. I actually made our wedding cake topper out of purple heart as well! A few previous projects that sat in the sunlight a few years also started to loose their beautiful purple luster and start browning so I've got our topper hidden in our wedding box. I didn't know they had UV finish, I'll have to check that out! Thanks!
