  1. Thanks! This was an exceptional piece of maple burl. Thanks, Scrappile. I just love this stuff, still after all these years.
  2. Thank you so much Peter!
  3. Almost everything I do nowadays is on slabs of Maple burls. No real grain, so I can pretty much go where I want with the blade. I've decided through experience that anything thicker than an inch and a quarter or inch and a half is just too thick for me.
  4. Thank you, Jeff! On to another one or two orders.
  5. Thank you so much!
  6. I think these burls are just beautiful. That's all I use for this type of items. Thank you.
  7. Thank you! I just love to work on these burl slabs. So gratifying when I'm finished.
  8. I really appreciate your compliment. Thank you!
  9. I absolutely am sold on using the maple burls. Thanks for the compliment!
  10. /thank you so much!
  11. maple burl slab
  12. For an avid bass fisherman, a friend of my son who lives in Reno. He loves to go for bass. This big boy is the third one of this pattern that I have completed this winter. Getting ready to UPS to the customer. Pattern by Candy Zine, this piece is again, cut into an inch and a quarter (1-1/4) maple burl slab. I mainly used my Seyco 21" for this project with straight blades, since I struggle with spirals.
  13. I've been working with mostly" maple burl" since about 1985. A little difficult but not because of the grain, I found. Just going through blades and being sure to cut so that the finished cut looks the same on the back. One of my problems with the burls is that the points that held the bark intact, are very, very pointed and sharp. The slabs sand to a beautiful finish. I use mostly 1/16" drill bits but have a big supply of very small bits. ie. #58, 60, 65. I do have a problem with bits that don't have a long enough shank to go all the way through the thick slabs. I found some very, very small aircraft bits, as they are called, but they have such a long, vulnerable shank that they break very easily. I've been known to shorten that shank (shush, don't tell the manufacturer) so that it works for me. Thank you so much for all your kind compliments. Jane
  14. cut into inch and a quarter thick maple burl slab. Cut with Flying Dutchman and Olson blades on my 21" Seyco.
  15. This was a special order from a man whose father and step-mother claimed the zebra as their spirit animal of sorts. Both of these people died and the man that ordered it wants to memorialize his dad and step-mom.
  16. Already done plus more.
  17. I work mainly on my 3 year old Seyco 21". All of a sudden I can't get the tension on my blade to hold. Ray at Seyco says he thinks it is blade slippage. I know he is the expert, but I just can't seem to agree that the blade is slipping. Steve Good says he's stumped after everything I've done to correct the problem and he mainly uses this saw and the Pegas. I've been scrolling since the 80's so I'm not a beginner. Please help if you can. Thank you so much. Jane
  18. Thank you , everyone for your nice, nice words and compliments!! It's finishing a piece like this and the recipient really loves it that makes my heart so happy that I have found this type of scrolling my passion. Thank you again. Jane
  19. Thanks, R.J. It was a hoot to do, but the fact that it blew the doctor away, was so worth it. He told me that the image was exactly what he had in his mind.
  20. This was a request from my cardiologist this past year. Little did I know that he travels to an Indian reservation and treats heart patients. So after seeing what I do with the maple burl slabs, he requested one of a "Young Indian Boy Dancing". Since the doctor is of East India decent, I asked him, "Indian from India or Native American Indian?" Native American he said, so from a photograph of a young Indian dancing at a local powwow, here is the finished project. This was done on my 21" Seyco and the wood was one and a quarter inch thick. This was my most favorite piece I did in 2023. Jane Hiatt
  21. Thanks for the wonderful comments!!
  22. Thanks, Joe
  23. This is an order I received from a friend of mine to give her friend, a bass fisherman, a unique Christmas gift. This is cut in an inch and a quarter thick maple burl slab on my 21" Seyco saw. My pattern was done by a friend, Candy Zine of Candy Zine Graphics. Haven't heard how he liked this project. Hoping to hear.
