    Well you can either use red oak or engineered wood like plywood. Cedar is also soft wood but not sure about its bending as I have't worked on it. Harder the wood the more difficult it is to bend. So its better to go for red oak and for this steam bending works best. Cheers

    Yeah I do grease the bearings after every use.
