  1. Thanks for all the posts. I really think driving 5-6 hours one way and then spend probably $150-250 for gas food lodging is not cost effective for me. I would rather use that money to buy wood. I use Northwest lumber here in Indianapolis and they have treated me well. They have a great selection of domestic, exotic, and BB baltic birch plywood. I guess its the day of everything is online. Sadly the day of the small local business is just disappearing. Even scrollsawing clubs here have disappeared.
  2. I have never been to the Midwest scroll saw and woodworking trade show in Dubuque, Iowa and it's looking like it will be going in August this year. My question has anybody attended it and what their reaction to it was? I see it is 2 days, is it worth attending both days? I'm interested in seeing different brands of scroll saws and being able to try them out. I think it would be helpful to talk to different people about their work so I can improve my skills.
  3. I just ordered Chapel Hills book "Making wooden gear clocks" and I will try one of them. Right now I started a 1933 Seagrave firetruck. I promised it to my daughter in law. The blue print drawings from her grandfather are 30 years old. I guess its time to get started!
  4. I am thinking about trying to make a wood gear clock. Does anybody have plan suggestions and any tips on wood and parts needed? How difficult are they to make?
  5. In high school I used to play pond ice hockey and had great fun doing it. When I was stationed in San Francisco I played some huff and puff league pick up games. As for professional games to go to they eliminated me by being out of the realm of the common man's budget. This pattern was Steve Goods stickman collection.

    hawk 220vs

I do not have it. One review says it helped stop blade breaking. I wonder if it has instructions on how to use it?

    Mike's Workshop

I find that when I want just a few dozen blades to try out shipping has been free.
  8. I ordered pegas blade clamps for my DW788 they shipped quickly and shipping cost was reasonable.
  9. I ordered just the blade holders from qtne.com for my DW788 and I really like them. They are holding up much better than dewalts.

I have a hawk 220vs and it has the lower blade holder that is the barrel type and this saw breaks blades about as fast as I can change them. The front to back motion when I checked it with a travel indicator read 0.090. To me this is very aggressive. I have given up even trying fretwork. Is there a way to fix it and is it worth fixing? My dewalt is much easier to saw with.
  11. For a good guide on maintenance and rebuilding go to Gwinnet woodworkers web site and click on videos. They are on YouTube. Bob Brokaw does a great job showing how to overhaul the DW788.
