  1. In the progress of cutting another pattern by Jim Blume, '' Roaring Cat '' . Looks like this after about 20 hrs and 200 entry cuts . The mouth part is cut out except a few spots to keep it there till all the rest of the pattern is cut out, to protect the whiskers from being broken off, very delicate.
  2. Thanks for your comments Jim, I just use straight blades in all my cuttings, tried spirals a few times but didn't like the results and my cutting ended up in the scrap pile lol. My brother looks at my cuttings and says that I should get my head examined , says that he sees some of these cuttings in magazines and thinks that no body in their right mind would attempt those patterns but comes to my shop and sees that I cut them ,LOL. I enjoy cutting patterns and will be doing another one of yours soon. I don't know if you saw my cutting ''The Gate Keeper'' in my album but now I am cutting out a picture of just the face of the dog, that I enlarged to about 10'' x 10'' using Inkscape , after following a tutorial by Travis on how to print oversize patterns on regular printer.
  3. Thank you all, Steve, Butch 1008, Norm Fengstad and Pet Design. Yes Jim has very good patterns and enjoy cutting them.
  4. Thanks, no problems with the whiskers with the pattern sized to 10'' x 10'' , but like I mentioned in my post, there were many sharp inside and inside cuts that required a lot of backing up to get a really good cut. In all it was a very good pattern to cut, really enjoyed it and again thanks a lot for the pattern.
  5. Thank you all, really appreciated. Rodney, I always use regular flat blades of 28 tpi , I tried to use spiral a few times but don't like them. And goldfish, there were only about 500 entry holes and took about 24 hrs of cutting. Great way to pass time and relax.
  6. Just finished cutting and framing another great pattern by Jim Blume, '' Leopard, Who Goes There " Not as intricate as the first one I cut, ''Wagon Wheels" , but It was an interesting pattern to cut , having many sharp inside and outside cuts. I was able to resize the pattern to 10" x 10" and print it on my printer on 2 sheets of paper after after following a tutorial by Travis on " How to print oversize patterns with Inkscape". Thanks for the pattern Jim Blum, I'm sure I will be downloading and cutting more of your fine patterns. beaver
  7. Thanks Jim Blume and spirithorse ....I'm just getting started on my latest cutting, the wagon wheel one by Jim.
  8. Yes it is a very nice model, not too difficult , except for the wheels ,that is, especially the spoked version. The plan has either spoked wheels or the plain ones. I went for the spoked ones, looks better and the more details there are the more I like it. I was in their site the other day and I believe the plan is still available.
  9. Sometimes glass but mostly plexiglass, not as heavy.
  10. Thanks. I make my own display cases for my models, not that difficult to make. I'll go on Google sketchup program tomorrow and see if I can draw you a sketch.
  11. Thanks, not sure but It took quite a few months because I usually only work at those models an hour or so now and then. But a very nice way to pass a few hours.
  12. Pics of my model of the 1930 Duesenberg that I built from plans by Forest Street Designs.
  13. It is an interesting project to do.
  14. Here's two photos of my latest cutting, '' Here Comes Santa Clause '' from a pattern by Jeff Zaffino, one with a frame I made (with wood) and the other one a digital one done up on computer with Google Sketch-up.
  15. You're welcome, here is another plan I did from them, but added few details of my own.
  16. Thanks all for your wonderful comments , really appreciated. Not sure how long it took to build it. I usually go in shop and pass a few hours now and then. I would guess about 100 hrs or so.
  17. I submitted a photo of my finished model like they requested and was really surprised after a few weeks when I received a copy of their catalogue and noticed my model on the back cover. I added a few details to the model like doors that open and a different hub center on the wheels. beaver
