After thinking through numerous solutions, I came up with one that actually works pretty well. The biggest problem I had was the noise from shopvacs and the whistling when pulling suction through the Pegas dust collection port. So… I bought the scrollnado, and then, and don’t laugh, I bought a vacmaster ultra quiet bagless household vacuum. It has the perfect level of suction for the scrollnado, it has a hepa filter system, it couples to the scrollnado which has a mini cyclone, and it works perfectly and oh so quietly. . It isn’t fancy, it isn’t hi tech, and it isn’t powerful…but it’s perfect for using only with the saw, the whole thing is permanently mounted in the shop…and off to the races I go! Sure, the sawdust might someday kill the vacuum, but with the mini cyclone on the scrollnado pulling in most of the dust, it’ll probably outlive me! If I was doing intarsia it might not work, but cutting 1/16” wood with a 2/0 blade for marquetry? It’ll be fine.

Sorry, last question. Dan, you do a lot of scrollling, you’re running big hoses up top. When you’re flipping the upper arm up to make an inside cut, isn’t that getting a bit unwieldy? That’s a lot of hose to move up and down, not the weight, just the wiggling mass. Is it something you’ve just gotten used to?

I’m going to try. I don’t want to hang 2 1/2” hoses on the saw, the scrollnado is at least sized for the saw. If I can use the scrollnado, split the hoses and connect one to the Pegas bottom dust collection, and relieve the restricted draw through the gate scheme, then it might just work. If not, I have an older Fein that has smaller hoses, and it might work, although it’ll be much noisier. Frankly Greg I feel like I’ve gone down a rabbit hole with this, spent too much money on it, and forgotten to actually make some sawdust! But I guess if this all works it’ll have been worth it…

You would think some company would have solved this already. Just as an fyi the way I’m trying to step down the stealthsonic is by ordering 2 “Y” splitters with blast gates. The first Y will go on the stealthsonic hose, the second Y will go in one of the two connectors on the first Y, leaving me with 3 avenues to vacuum with. I’ll run one hose to the top of the saw, the other to the bottom, and the third one I’ll use the blast gates to partially open and balance the dewalt’s pull. I figure with the gate partially open on the empty connector, the dewalt won’t be starved for air, I can step down the suction on the bottom enough to stop the awful whistling, or just not use the Pegas connection at all and rig a hose like pictured above, and rig a hose at the top. By giving the Dewalt a chance to suck air as needed maybe the whole thing goes into balance. The Y Splitters were 28 bucks each on Amazon and if this works it’s a whole lot cheaper than spending 900 bucks or more on the foredom! Anyway, it’s comforting to know other folks are working at a solution here! Thanks for the info everyone!

Wow, thanks so much for the info. I’ll try to split the hose and run it up top. I ordered a scrollnado hoping it would do something similar, but I’m afraid that choking the dewalt down to such small hoses is going to choke the airflow and destroy the dewalt. It hasn’t arrived yet, and I’m not sure if it’ll work. I like the way your system looks, may I ask where you picked up the yellow hose attachment up top? I’ve looked at the Foredom madc20 that Seyco sells and that’s my next attempt if this doesn’t work. Many thanks for the response!!

Hi all Ive been wrestling with how to move my scrolling indoors when the weather eventually turns cold and wet. Right now I’ve been pulling my saw out to the deck off of the workshop. All the equipment in there is on wheels and I use it outside. ive started to do some marquetry and am enjoying it, I’m using a Pegas saw, and I’d like to hook it up to dust collection. I just purchased the 11 gallon stealthsonic because it has the same 2 1/2” hose as the Pegas lower dust collection. However, when you hook the dewalt up to the saw, the dewalt starts screaming because it’s starved for air, and the Pegas starts whistling through those tiny holes in the table. Has anyone actually solved this problem? Many thanks!!
