  1. Hi, I'm back. I honestly have no idea what happened since I joined in 2017, came back again in 2019, went thru Covid, layoff, re-employment, and now into semi-retirement. Anyway, my shop is now reorganized and my Delta scroll saw repositioned by the basement egress window and I am hoping to do more scrolling. Did a Steve Good pattern yesterday and it was a lot of fun. See attached. Gotta work on my finishing skills. One thing I learned: I'm shooting for smooth lines rather than getting hung up on following the lines exactly. Like everyone says, once the pattern is off no one knows where the line was anyway, and people who look at it don't know that either. Hopefully I'll get better with practice and keep my mind sharp. Thanks for still being here.
  2. Hi, thanks for letting me into this community. I have been scrolling since summer 2016. I transfer public domain images directly to baltic birch plywood and cut them up into jigsaw puzzles. One difficulty I am having is chipping on the image side. I am using 4B baltic birch from Robert Bury in Montreal and using #2/0 .008 .027 23 8 DOUBLE TOOTH REV (DT/R) blades from Saw Bird. I want to sell my puzzles. Any advice is much appreciated. Cheers!
  3. Glad to join the group. I had a old Sears scroll saw for several year and never really used it until I retired 2 years ago. I got hooked! Follow the line! Now, I have to have some project in the works all the time. This summer I finally retired the Sears for a Excaliber. What a difference! Thumb screw blade tightening and really quiet! I have been building several types of boxes (scroller designs) and various plaques. I was working with padauk but dust was not good. Also use Bubinga, oak and ,of course, Birch Plywood. Interested to hear from other members what type of woods they have worked with.
  4. Hello everyone! I asked for a received my very first scroll saw from Santa for Christmas, and have used it so far to make a couple of badly cut puzzles, and practice my lines. I'm getting better every day though! I'm not sure how I got into it. I think I saw one of Steve Good's videos on youtube while looking for something unrelated (Well, not totally, I believe I was looking for how to make a puzzle template for one of my other crafts... but, I digress.) I'm looking forward to checking out the posts and getting to know everyone! Angel
  5. Thank you for letting us join. We've been scrollsawing for about 3 or 4 years. We've learned alot but hope to learn alot more here. Thinking of trying Intarsia this fall. Our other hobbies are motorcycling around the US. We're going to Maine in a couple weeks to Acadia Park. We also do alot of shooting. We just started trap shooting this summer but shoot alot of rifles, pistols. When it starts getting cold we move indoors and start scrolling. Hope to learn and get more ideas here.
  6. Hi SSV! My name is Redgam and I live in Alabama with my 16 month old daugher and our 4 year old golden retriever. I started scrolling about 2 years ago, really, I just stumbled upon it as I looked to fix our bed. I went over to my neighbors, Christine and Pete, to lend their scroll saw. It was a SS16V if I remember correctly. So, what am I doing here? Well, I guess I just want to find people that have the same interest as me as it is fairly uncommon to find someone with a similar passion. I hope you all have a wonderful day! Redgam E.
  7. Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself. I signed up to this forum about 10 minutes ago. My name is Pat and I'm 32 years old. I recently purchased a Dewalt DW788 scrollsaw with a stand. Since then I've been playing around and cut out a few symbols. I have quite a few pine pallets that I dissambled, removed the nails, ran through a thickness planer, cleaned the edges up and plan on glueing up to later cut out some designs. Two days ago I downloaded Inkscape and I'm trying to learn that application so I can make some patterns to cut out at a later date. Right now it's really cold outside and I don't have a heater in the garage so I've been inside looking for scrollsaw forums\sites to learn off of. Is anyone else from Maryland? I recently purchased a chainsaw mill so I'm looking forward to having a good amount of wood to work with. Pat
  8. Hi all, Just a note to introduce myself. I've been scrolling 6-8 years. I took it up to keep busy after my cancer surgery and I had to retire. I do mostly fretwork, and puzzles for my many great nieces/nephews. I don't expect to post much, as I am mainly a lurker. I am sure I wil learn a lot here. Charlie
