Two Truths & A Lie:

  1. The man who bought ten items at my last indoor craft fair tracked me down at my local outdoor twilight market last night. He had bought one of my NZ hearts and wanted another two but with NZ centred in the heart. So here they are, cut from rimu a friend of mine saved from a builders firewood pile from a cottage renovation. Finished with tung oil and beeswax. I had to enlarge the heart in order to centre the cut out and personally I think I prefer my original version but the customer is always right they say. Which do you prefer? Rob
  2. This is one I have cut a couple of times before but I love it. Reclaimed rimu from an old drawer box finished with 50/50 BLO and beeswax. The colour and grain of the rimu remind me of a sunset. Rob
  3. Have been busy lately making a mobile workbench and a couple of sawhorses so I was a little rusty when I got back to cutting. These trivets are for my next craft fair at the end of September. Cut from reclaimed timber as usual, finished with BLO and beeswax. Pattern by Arpop Pattern by Kepy I have cut Kepy's trivet before but much smaller. This one is 8 inches or 20cm diameter. It is one of my favourite patterns. Rob
  4. Another quick cutting of a wolf, designed by Grampa and from the pattern library. 3mm oversize painted mdf backer and reclaimed rimu as usual. Rob
  5. I cut this little plaque from reclaimed rimu with a painted mdf backer. I'm not sure where I found the pattern. It is 20cm x 7cm or 8" x 3" approx. Rob
  6. Deer and doe cut from reclaimed rimu and finished with BLO and beeswax. Pattern by Gayle from Scroller's Cafe. I can't decide if this would be better with a backer or not. What do you think? Rob
  7. Labrador plaque cut from reclaimed Rimu with painted mdf backer and finished with BLO and beeswax. Thanks to Grampa for the excellent pattern!
  8. I have cut this pattern before but came across some 1/8" (3mm) mdf at the recycling centre recently so cut this again with a painted backer. Finished with BLO and Rustoleun semi-gloss.

    Cougar

8 x 4 inch Cougar plaque cut from reclaimed Rimu finished with BLO and beeswax topcoat. Rob
  10. At four inches across, this is barely a trivet but that was all the timber I had available. Great floral design by Kepy. Reclaimed Rimu finished with BLO and a beeswax topcoat. Rob

    Tui plaque

Our flax plants have flowered this year and are very popular with the local Bellbirds and Tui. This plaque is cut from reclaimed Rimu, finished with boiled linseed oil and an oil and beeswax topcoat. 21 cm x 14 cm or 8 x 6 inches approx. The Tui was also known as the Parson bird by early settlers on account of the tuft of white feathers at his throat.
  12. This little art nouveau flower is cut from reclaimed Rimu finished with boiled linseed oil. It measures 7 cm x 5 cm or 2 x 3 inches approx. The design is from some illustrations at www.craftsmanspace.com.
  13. Art deco inspired heart cut from reclaimed Rimu. Finished with boiled linseed oil.
  14. Heart of hearts cut from reclaimed Rimu. 10cm x 10cm or 4 x 4 inches approx. Rob
