Seeing as this post was started by Grandpa on May 28 2014 and it is still going, I may as well add my mug shot to the countless others that I have viewed tonight.

one of the few shots where there is neither food or beer in the picture. It is amazing just how much you eat and drink that you take pictures of    Me and my better half :)

I tried once. Here goes again. This is at a halloween concert so both Ruby and I are in costume as are some other musicians in the background

Good looks photo Ernie.  Do you play the trumpet or just carry it to look good?  ;)

That's a cornet which is what is used in British Style Brass Bands which is what I was playing in at the time the picture was taken.  I play Trumpet, Cornet, Tenor Horn, Flugelhorn, French Horn, Euphonium and Tuba but primarily Cornet, French Horn and Euphonium.  I also belong to Buglles Across America (and am Assistant Director for Michigan) which provides live TAPS for Funerals for Veterans and Service Members and the occassional First Responder killed in the line of duty.

Wow, very impressive.  Sorry I mistook it for a trumpet, but thats OK Roly put me in my place.

Marg,

The tone on a cornet is a little sweeter owing to the conical tubing.  British style Brass Bands have cornets - not trumpets and Tenor Horns - not French Horns.  They also have one Soprano Cornet - higher pitched than the rest.  Also trombones, bass trombones,  Baritones, Euphoniums, and two different types of Tubas (called basses in a British Style Brass Band).  I see you are originally from England so perhaps you have heard a Brass Band.  I love Brass Bands and playing in them.  However I do remember Sir Malcom Sargent's remark about them: "Brass Bands have their place - preferably several miles away from town"
