RichieB Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 I was looking through some old photos yesterday and found these two. They must be at least 40 years old. At that time I was mainly doing wood turning on my beautiful Myford ML8 lathe and had a workshop at my parents home. My brother did the pyrography on some of the items. I was doing at least 2 craft markets a month and taking £200 -£400 a market, Those were the days, people respected craftsmanship! The bubble burst in the eighties and has never recovered. richie bobscroll and Wilson's Woodworking 2 Quote
amazingkevin Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 BOY you get into the thick of it with that lathe,Nice display of talent too! Quote
spirithorse Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Nice display! It really is too bad that the cheap plastic imports have replaced good craftsmanship but, I suppose I have to say I am as guilty as the the next guy for buying cheap (out of necessity). Craft shows around here have more imported junk and things like Avon than real CRAFTS. And then, some of the crafts are CNC Laser cut. Thanks for the photos and God Bless! Spirithorse Quote
wombatie Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 There is a lot of great looking things there but I fell in love with the owls on the left. Marg Quote
amazingkevin Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 (edited) Spirtit horse your right about the craft shows .I'm appalled at the Chinese junk they were selling .Absolutely nothing to do with homemade crafts . I wondered on first impression why they were even there. it ruined the air of the show of displayed talent.! Edited July 14, 2014 by amazingkevin Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Rich I love the work and the lumberjack shirt which was all the rage back then. Quote
Rob Roy Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Rich I love the work and the lumberjack shirt which was all the rage back then. Hey you!!!!!! I still wear one, (or two), of them, Roly. . Rob Roy. Quote
Rob Roy Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Great pictures Richie and beautifully made Craftwork. Looks a lot better than the Oriental crud that they import now. As for the Laser cut and CNC stuff I don't see the point. All the fun and satisfaction is in actually making your stuff not just pressing a button after you've spent God knows how long programming the machine. I can see the use for these machines in engineering shops etc., but not in a shed at the bottom of the garden. Sorry about the rant. . Rob Roy. amazingkevin, Phantom Scroller and bobscroll 3 Quote
