wombatie Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Roly, youv'e got me as daft as yourself. it is a cow. Bull horns are a lot shorter on a HEILAN Bull or Highland Bull if you prefer, and they don't spread so far, the horns are more forward pointing. Rob Roy. I swear Rob, if I ever am fortunate enough to meet you or some of these Brits I am going to bring a chalk board so I can ask you to spell out some words and prohibit you from phonetic spelling. Doug if you think seeing what the Scotsman writes is bad, it's worse when they open their mouths. You can't understand a word he says, believe me. It took me 9 weeks to work out what a Heilan Coo was.  Marg Doug 1 Quote

Okay, I checked and there are of a lot of books which could be useful. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=scots+slang&tag=googhydr-20&index=stripbooks&hvadid=34124191151&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3663185161903990261&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_dxooznkso_b The problem I have is that I never could understand as a kid why when I asked how to spell a word I was told to look it up in the dictionary. How do you look up something you cannot spell. Or, as Mr. Spock was fond of saying "That is illogical." bobscroll, Rob Roy and wombatie 3 Quote

I keep telling the wife the same thing when she's doing a crossword puzzle. If you don't know how to spell it how are you going to find it in the dictionary, but she manages to find it EVENTUALLY. I remember many years ago I asked my Grandmother how to spell Politician. The answer I got was, L. I.A.R. . Oh, and bye just now and i'll see you all later,is the translation Doug. Rob Roy. The nine weeks it took me to find out what a Heilan Coo was, was 20 years ago. Number two. One of my best friends is from Ayrshire. Ardrossen in fact. Number three. On our last trip to Scotland we spent close to 3 weeks in a place called Neilston. Which if I am not mistaken is not all that far from YOU. And only 4 days in Edinburgh. Number four. I already have a Scottish Dictionary Ok now that is all cleared up, what do you have to say for yourself????????????????????????????????? Marg   Quote

The town is named after me which isn't difficult, (before you say it) Will explain later. Rob Roy. wombatie 1 Quote
