greasemonkeyredneck Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 SSV has officially became my extended family. When SSV members send me personal e-mails of concern when they haven't seen new projects from me in over a week, why they're showing more attention to my work than my actual family that lives outside my home. Hell, they're showing more concern than some members living in my home. Don't ask. If any of you have a teenage daughter, you already know what I mean by that. Anyway, I thought I'd post publicly instead of answering that email to let everyone know what's been going on. I haven't been completely out. Just what's been going on in my shop hasn't been scroll saw related, unfortunately. The first thing that happened was my old truck finally took a crap on me. I thought it was a blown head gasket. So, I replaced the head gasket. That didn't fix it. So, I removed the head and carried it to a machine shop to be diagnosed. It was warped. They resurfaced it for me and I was in business, or so I thought. That didn't fix it either. It turns out that I think I've got a cracked block. In this part of the country, Ford 300 striaght six blocks cost more than what I'm really willing to put into the old truck at this time, so I'm probably without a way to go untill after I can at least get Christmas paid for. Who knows, maybe something will come up. I borrow my wife's Jeep when I just have to go somewhere. So, back to woodwork. I've been in the process for some time converting my 100 plus cassette tapes to digital format and burning them to CD. It got to the point though that all my CDs no longer fit into my case. I've got a quite large trunk type case that holds CDs in the bottom and cassettes in a removable tray at the top. So, I decided to build me a similar setup. The difference is that this one is going to hold just CDs. I'm almost done with it. It is made of pecan. If anyone would like to see photos, please let me know and I'll be glad to post them. As soon as I complete the CD case project, I've got a few other non scroll type projects to get done. My wife wants a wooden trash can. I'm thinking of building a gun cabinet for my sons for Christmas. You get the idea. I hope to get back to the scroll saw as soon as I can. However, priority projects seems to be keeping off of it. Thank you so much though (the two people who have emailed me) for your concern. It made me feel good that apparently I've made enough presence of myself on SSV that anyone would notice that I hadn't posted new projects. It make a fellow feel nice to be missed. Quote

Travis Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 I'd love to see a WIP thread on the gun cabinets. Its just a lot of fun seeing projects big and small come together. This time of year, I have to live vicariously through others. Feel free to put WIP pix of non-scroll saw related projects in the Other Woodworks forum. That's what its there for. A lot of folks who scroll saw also dabble in other forms of woodworking. I guess its in our blood. Quote
greasemonkeyredneck Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 As soon as I can, I'll post photos of my current works then. For the truck, now I just need to decide what I'm going to do about it. I'm thinking of finding something with an automatic in it. I've had this truck forever. She's been a good one. It's got a 300 straight six in it. It's got a four speed tranny with granny low. It's always been able to pull anything that I throw at it. There's days that I can't drive it though. My left leg hasn't worked right in about five years. The muscles in it have completely failed me. I use a brace to keep it from buckling out from under me. For this reason, I keep the seat positioned in it so that I can get a straight leg on the clutch peddle and use my hip to push it. An auto tranny would make like easier on me. I hate to give the old girl up though. I think that truck has been sort of an accaomplishment for me that I've still been able to drive it. I did find where I could get an engine for a good price though. I'm thinking on it for now. I may find me another ride with an auto tranny, drop a 302 in old Bessie and let my boys have it. Then again, in the end, I may cling to my old truck and dare anyone to touch it. Quote
