LarryEA Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 I have seen canes made from small saplings. You dig the sapling up and some have a curved root that becomes the handle... I've seen beautiful one. Phantom Scroller 1 Quote

WigWag Workshop Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 My son has taking an interest in making walking sticks, which is awesome has he spends time in the workshop with me. He's just starting out, and has not looked at any books or tutorials, he said he wants to have a go on his own. Thank you for the links above, I will share them with him when he is ready. On another note, he finds his wood while we are out Geocaching, there is an unlimited supply of fallen tree limbs. However, sandpaper and tips for the wood burner are another story. -Steven Phantom Scroller 1 Quote
sullyscroller Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 I'm sure that was Sully come to think of it where is he????????????? I'm still lurking in the shadows Roly hehehe .I did turn some hiking sticks on a lathe back a couple years ago and they are a challenge because of the length 4-5 foot is hard to keep from wobbling on the lathe. Slow the speed as slow as possible and cut slow. I didn't sell many so i moved on to other stuff. Now i'm trying my hand at intarsia for the fall craft shows. God Bless and good luck sully Quote
sullyscroller Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 I'm still waiting to see the bee boxes somebody was making! I had a couple of my ideas and patterns stolen last year so i don't post pics anymore. The craft shows income supplements my SSI and to have "friends" steal your ideas at the shows hurt . It cut my income from the traps in half !!! Sorry for the delayed explanation but it still rubs me raw , I can forgive but not forget. sully bobscroll 1 Quote
