Inkscape Question

I have installed Inkscape and watched the tutorials. My screen does not look the same as the videos. Thinking maybe it's the version. I can not find the A button do make text. Any help appreciated, Dave

 

Is there a spell check on this page where I am making a post?

Only in 'Word Atr' do you need to know how to spell.

I have a similar problem but thought it was caused by my brouser.

Dave, on the bottom left on Inkscape is   ' >> ' this double arrow thing.. When I click it, I do not get what is shown in tutorial.

I get the words "Dropper ... Connector"   not what si shownin tutorial...

version .91 there is a "A" on the left click on it then on your doc where you want to type text. you might have to change the font

I have version.48 and it has the "A" on the left also.

Exactly what Falcon wrote above.

What version are you guys using?

I have .91 also. At the bottom left there is a small >>. When I clicked on it there was a drop down that included text and a few other things. Thanks a lot to all of you. Dave

Re Spell Check. I intentionally typed "misisissippi". It underlined it as wrong. Right clicked the misspelled word, got a drop down. On the top was the correct spelling. Clicked on it and it changed the word. We both just learned something new.

 

Please don't be timid about asking questions. It is unreal how quickly the GREAT people on this site will help you.

Do you have Inkscape at full size on your monitor? When I open Inkscape it is in small window and the >> shows at the bottom left.  And other selections show in drop down box when I click on the >>.  But, when I open it to full size the >> symbol goes away and the remainder of the selections appear.

If you go to View>Default, it will make the screen look similar to the ones in the video.  That will move the text properties tool to the top tool bar instead of on the right.  Maybe that will help.
