Kepy Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 Windows 10 has struck. I have been using it with no problems but obviously they have added an update and my trusty old laser printer is no longer recognized. Just because it was designed for Windows 98 doesn't mean it should be put out to pasture. It was working fine until this last update. Even had a computer tech try to get it working but said it couldn't be recognized any longer but he had a good deal on a laser jet (just imagine). I have since found one for $60 cheaper than he quoted so may have to bite the bullet. Sure hate to give up on my old trusty. Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 There might be a patch for it on windows web site do a goggle search for printer drivers. Roly Quote
Birchbark Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 yep, what Roly said, and if that doesn't work, try making that respond with the compatability mode. LOL. Google it. I think you right click on it, choose run this program in Compatabliity mode, or somethjing. Russell Scrolling Steve 1 Quote
GrampaJim Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 Not to get preachy, buy I gave up all Microsoft/Windows a couple of years ago. Check out UBUNTU Linux. Free, easy to learn, does everything I need, upgrades are free, anti-virus is free. I believe Gimp and Inkscrape that you use were originally Linux in origin and converted over to windows based. The only problem you may have is any programs you bought for any windows version will not work without a lot of messing around, but there is probably a free Linux program that does the same thing! I am on a Linux system now writing and posting this. Internet and Email are there too. Jim amazingkevin 1 Quote

bandaideman Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 I did have a similar issue but it has been a while so memory is not so good as to whether it was before or after windows 10. I ended up googling my printer name and model etc and finding the book to see what could be done. I had to down load something and then the computer and printer found each other and have been happly working together ever since. It I think had something to do with drives for my epson printer to get it reaquanted. what ever it worked and was free. Quote
WigWag Workshop Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) You can always try using a driver called "HP LaserJet 4" or "HP LaserJet 5". It should be in the list of drivers already installed. It's a generic HP driver that usually works 99% of the time with any HP LaserJet Printer. I been using computers since 1983, and been in the field professionally since 1996. Edited January 11, 2016 by WigWag Workshop Quote
