bbuzz8233 Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 I sometimes like to make plaques using the Monotype Corsiva font. In order to keep some of the letters from falling apart while scrolling, I have been manually using "white out" to create brakes in these letters. Is there anyone out there who has ever run across or could create a Mono Corsiv type of font specifically for use by scrollers which I and other scrollers could download into their family of existing fonts? jerry1939 Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 Hi Newbie, I use Inkscape, but others are probably the same. Type the word (kearn if desired) and enlarge it greatly. Using the RECTANGULAR tool, create the size you want for a bridge. Move it onto the letter (I color it red), rotate as needed. Duplicate the red and move the copy down for when you need it again. SELECT the Red, hold SHIFT and also SELECT the word. Go to PATH - DIFFERENCE. Save all the "red shapes" below, as you will be using them again. Sometimes you need to rotate the Red slightly. I hope this makes sense to you My Friend (I sure as heck doesn't to me !!) jerry Quote
bobscroll Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 Hi Bill, Could you show us an image so we would have a better idea what you meaning, Bob Quote
Rob Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) That's a great idea. Steve Good has a stencil font you can download here http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.co.nz/2014/05/scroll-saw-stencil-font.html but I don't know of any in the Monotype Corsiva style. I found a few more fonts here Rob Edited January 28, 2016 by Rob Quote
bbuzz8233 Posted January 29, 2016 Author Report Posted January 29, 2016 In reply to bobscroll's request for an image to get a better idea of what I mean, I've attached an example of an Alfred, Lord Tennyson quote that I was thinking of scrolling onto a plaque and giving to my wife for Valentine's Day. I've typed out the saying in Monotype Corsiva font but, if I tried to cut the letters as shown, the a's; the d's, the e's; etc would fall apart without the insertion of a space to hold the letters together. Up to now, I've been doing that manually. So I was wondering if anyone knew how to create a scroll friendly mono corsiv type font that could be downloaded to a computer's list of fonts and used to print mono corsiv letters that could be cut on the scroll saw without manual intervention. You could probably do it with Birdfont or Fontcreator, both are free downloads. Otherwise it is very easy to modify your pattern in Inkscape. Don R Quote
LarryEA Posted January 29, 2016 Report Posted January 29, 2016 There's your answer,... Change to a different font or add bridges to Monotype Corsiva font using Inkscape. Quote
bbuzz8233 Posted January 29, 2016 Author Report Posted January 29, 2016 I think I've got my answer. Thanks to all of you for your advice! It's deeply appreciated!! Quote
