Scrappile Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) Is there a way to work over a pattern in Inkscape like a Charles Dearing pattern, I imported it to Inkscape because I wanted to make it gray with black outline, then save it to something that RapidResizer will accept? I have tried it several times trying to save it with options Inkscape provides, but no joy. Edited February 18, 2016 by Scrappile Quote
woodknots Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 I'm not Travis but you might be able to open it in gimp and change the type of format and save it to a format you can use in inkscape. Quote
Falcon Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 I import dearing's pattern to inkscape and do a trace bitmap then you can change the trace to gray with outline in another color. Just right click on color you want outline and set stroke. Save as a png file. Hope this helps WayneMahler 1 Quote
WayneMahler Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 I have a few of his patterns, I ran them through inkscape, then Corel Draw and can cut the with collors matching something easier to see. Quote
Scrappile Posted February 18, 2016 Author Report Posted February 18, 2016 Thanks for the responses. I know how to do the changes I want in Inkscape I just don't like the method used in Inkscape to print larger patterns. Much nicer and easier in RapidResizer. Jerry I will try the .png save, thanks. I have also found I can use a .pdf file in RapidRizer, although it requires some additional steps. Quote
jerry1939 Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 My method is very similar. Take any pattern, clip art, etc. Import it into Inkscape And trace it with the Bezier. Set a stroke wide enough for you to easily see and use a contrasting color. Keep hitting SAVE. Any time you want to look for a problem area you created, SAVE your work and delete the original image. Memorize where you need to clean it up, go to: EDIT-UNDO DELETE and keep going. 2 things to know: 1. Hit SAVE a brazilion times. 2. When you are done tracing and delete the original image. DO NOT do OBJECT TO PATH - UNGROUP - UNION. When you do UNION, it does all kinds of weird things. and you need to UNDO UNION. Instead, draw your "imaginary box" around everything. Wait a few seconds for the computer to SELECT all your short lines before releasing the mouse. Now you can reset the STROKE width and choose your line color. you can also shrink it to the canvas. Keep a close eye on your SELECTED group. It likes to "break everything apart" and you need to repeat your box. Keep hitting SAVE!!!! jerry Quote
Travis Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 It sounds like you're able to create the grey pattern with black outline just fin in Inkscape. So the next step would to be saving your pattern as a bitmap based image (JPG, GIF, PNG, etc). The only bitmap based image Inkscape supports is PNG. You'll want to select your pattern, then go to File>Export PNG Image. Make sure the "Selection" button at the top of that window is selected. Toward the bottom there's a button that says "Export As", click that and choose where you want to save your file and give it a file name. Then click Export. PNG is a common image format, so I'm guessing Rapid Resizer will recognize it. If not, you can open the file in GIMP and resave it as a JPG. I hope that helps. Scrappile 1 Quote
